George did us all an immense favor with that Yoda battle scene. Damn, that was awesome. I freaked out. The audience freaked out. I am still freaked out. That guy can swing that thing for sure. He was all over the place.

The best lightsaber battle to date!!!

Opinions?

I was really pleased with the way Yoda's battle was pulled off. In fact Yoda was a better character overall in this movie, more like the wise cracking eccentric of the OT. "Lost a planet Obi-Wan has. How embarrassing."

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. He was really awesome.

It is cool, once you get over the fact that he can barely walk and all of a sudden he is doing flips. Once the shock passes, its cool.

I thought Yoda came off as incredible. I didn't like him much in E1. I thought it was a nice touch to have him pick the cane back up after the fight. Perhaps he uses the force to strengthen his body to fight.

My two favorite characters in EpII were Yoda and Threepio.....

some really great stuff.......I'm still floored by it.....

"Did that just happen?"

me, after the film.........

Did everyone crack up when he grabbed his cane? In my theater they did. I was like, "Yeah, right. Like you need that there buddy."

I wonder if he just fakes being nearly crippled to make his enemies think he is weak. The way he was jumping around was just amazing.

I just loved that whole sequence. Dooku wipes the floor with Obi-Wan and Anakin and then you hear; click, click, click as Yoda rounds the passageway. Then the Bruce Lee posedowns and the Crouching Tiger fight sequence. It was great.

definitely.....

I will NEVER judge him by his size again.....

and I don't ever wanna make him angry either!!!

It was too awesome how he force grabbed his saber from his belt!!!!!!!!!!!!

& then force grabbed the cane from the floor after some major butt kickin!!!!!!!!

As SirSteve had asked in this thread (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6102) who we thought would be the most popular character, I stated Yoda..... He's just so awesome!

YODA ROCKS! HE KICKED DOOKU'S ***! wow! yoda just amazed everyone in our theatre! as soon as we saw his shadow appear, everyone clapped and screamed! the only thing bad about it was that it should have been longer, but maybe george can put the with the other million scenes they left out (jk)

to runobot: "strong am i with the force. but not that strong.." i think he felt sorry for anni and obi-wan and started to limp around...hehe! no wonder he is a jedi master.

Why can he flip around like an acrobat in fights, but hobble when walking? Come on now. That's the only problem I have with the flick. Good job, Lucas.

He used the Force to help him, but he can't do that all the time, that's why he needs the cane, the Force drains a Jedi when they use it.

When he is fighting he becomes engulfed in the Force.
It is the Force that controls his actions, as well as obey his commands. And when he was done fighting he went back to being an 800 year old man.

The cane may also be for show, to make others think he is weak.

Beast
05-16-2002, 06:15 PM
He could be using the cane, the same way that Emporer Palpatine uses one in Episode VI. It was mentioned in one of the Essential Charecter books that Palpy uses one to make his enemies think that he is helpless, old, and weak. To draw them out into making a direct attack against him, so he can destory them. It could also be that Yoda can fight like that, when tapping the force, but any other time his body is weak. :)

I agree with BD.......it's so that people DO judge him by his size

It could be because I'm broke....but I'm still not buying it :D

Runobot

Yeah, that was my theory, it is a ploy to make him appear weaker than he is. Remember when Anakin thought he could rival Yoda's saber skills? Anakin clearly underestimated him.

yeah, the theatre i was at was pretty silent for most of it, but when the shadow appeared, everyone started yelling and cheering and clapping. it was great. :D
it's funny, i dont remember much of the movie. after his fight scene and the final battle, it really isnt the suprising. :)

I really loved that scene!!! Yoda is the best Jedi ever. I'd love to see him battle Darth Vader! And yeah, i also think Yoda used the Force excessively to do all those freaky salto's and other moves in his duel with Count Dooku. It probably really tired him so that's why he grabbed his cane afterwards. Hope i can find his fig tomorrow!

I think Yoda's came off real well. I was so busy watching Yoda, I forgot to watch Dooku.
I wonder what Christopher Lee faught against since Yoda was CG?

I was going to make a seperate post about this but it fits here, so here it is:

Why is Yoda using a hoverchair in that one scene? We know he can walk.

Due to his age and size, and the fact that the Jedi temple was built with normal humanoid scale in mind. Not to mention keeping stride with people like Mace Windu and the other "giant" Jedi. Much easier for Yoda to zip around in his little hovercart, then try to keep up with them. :)

Did you see the size of that hallway? I know I wouldn't want to wait up for his short decrepid arse. Just don't tell him I said that.:dead:

Those are good points, but, it seems to me, that, out of respect, Windu and Kenobi would slow their pace while walking to keep up with Yoda, not him with they. But maybe that harkens back to the dialogue that transpired during said scene, about Jedi being too cocky and arrogant. Maybe Yoda is so humble, he would use a hoverchair rather than demand his "subordinates" lag behind to keep up with him.

Well, I may be lazy, but if I had a hover chair, I would use one too. Being a Jedi Master has its perks.

That's what I thought of when he struck that "Bruce Lee" pose during the fight with Dooku. The supposedly "weak old man" about to kick some major butt!

I gotta say,the Yoda's fight was the most respectful treatment of an iconic character that I have ever seen.It was great.
Anakins comment about being as good a swordsman as Yoda and obi wans quip"In your mind" set it up perfectly.
It also says to me most Jedi have knowledge of just how good Yoda is.Perfect just perfect.Obi wan down Anakin out cold and then the shadow."Much to learn still my young padawan" Man that was a slap in the face!!!Dookus face showing his increased desperation, and the fact dawning on him Yoda wasn't going to be touched!!! He took the cowards way out and ran.The other two Jedis were yoda's only weakness. What is the explaination of the cane/Beats me but it was great to see him in action and then go right back to being old ad decrepid.Pulling his robe open and his saber zipping into his hand was awesome!!Sorry Guys for rambleing this part of the film blew me away!!!

heh.....

I've always wondered how powerful as a fighter, and as a dispenser of ancient wisdom we'd have if we could combine Miyagi, and Yoda, into one super old mystic guy.....

Mr. Miyoda would rock you with his witty repartee, and then beat you psycho with his lightsaber karate!!!

After watching it again, I wonder why Yoda didn't finish Dooku. Yeah, he would have lost two more Jedi, but when you think about it, he would probably have savedmany more lives by killing him.

Maybe he let him live because he wants to figure out who the Sith lord is still... Curious.

With two old dudes duking it out better than any previous youngster or oldster in the Star Wars series it makes me see the OT saber duels looking bad. Seems as though with age, you become much more powerful physically if you are a force user, yet Obi-Wan in the OT could barely swing a saber against Vader.

Hey runobot,
One of the two jedi may be the chosen one.To much of a risk to run for Yoda.

It was amazing to see that scene...the way he stopped Count Dooku's lightning bolts...the way he moved with his lightsaber...it makes u want to see him in action against Palpatine. As for Anakin, when he was fighting with two lightsabers was awesome also, too bad he lost that fight in a horrible way, i mean, he was totally bested by Dooku.
Ob1 was giving us a good show also, but got defeated fast also (he fought better against an aparently better sith...Darth Maul). Seems like Yoda and Mace Windu have their spot in the Council well deserved, so far they are the best.

Yoda can only do flips and stuff when the Force is flowing through him....he hobbles with the cane any other time.

I thought it looked a little stretched. Granted, everything can be credited to the force, so Yoda can do whatever he wants. It would have been more in his character, and probably more suitable to see Yoda relaxed, deflecting Dooku's advances and then finally besting him with lowered sabre and other use of the force the way Vader beat Luke in ESB. It would have looked more in character.
I am happy he kicked Dooku's butt. It badly needed to happen.

Back to Dooku running away.. wouldn't it have been easier to just "push" or "pull" anakin and obi out of the way of the pillar. It took a lot of effort to lift the colum and I assume it would have took a lot less effort to force push a couple of limp bodies. Then he still would have had time to whip up on Dooku. But yeah I know that doesn't logically work since we need another scapegoat(dooku) in ep3.

A'ight, here it goes...

Yoda's fight was absolutely great. Some of you probably remember my concern about how it would look... well it worked out just fine for me. I eas actually excited during the whole sequence, BUT...

I realize CL is an old man and Yoda... well Yoda doesn't even exit but really I would have preferred some stunt doubles than all that CGI... A LONG time ago when i was a Jedi Master in the old forums, I mentioned how i was disappointerd at the use of CGI in the hangar duel. Well, this time i'm not disappointed but i still feel somewhat disgusted, I mean, it's not like humans can't do the job. My favorite coreography remains Obi-Wan Vs Darth Maul and there was not that much fake jedi-sith there.

And in response to the question "why didn't yoda destroy dooku"... well that's just not him, he actually wanted to get the guy not kill him, and also, Anakin said compassion was important. Yoda knew he could have killed him but he chose to play it "nice little green man". And also if he had he probably would have been attracted to the dark side. Want that he did not.
