OK, here is another one of my now famous RANTS (after only 2 posts!), in regards to the CARDS of the Star Wars SAGA figure line. Ok, so when i was a little boy, and I first started collecting Star Wars toys, I enjoyed seeing the new movie logos on the figures as they came out. When Star Wars came out, you had the Star Wars logo on the figure cards, when Empire came out, Empire cards, and Jedi cards when Jedi came out. So I thought it was very cool when TPM came out, you had Star Wars: Episode 1 cards on the figures!! So, one of the things i REALLY looked forward to was STAR WARS: EPISODE 2 cards on the new figures! But to my DISMAY, I get GENERIC blue Star Wars cards. What a DOWNER!! I was looking forward to having carded figures from each movie, with cards that could easily remind me of what movie they were from. That will never happen for me now!! Please respond with your thoughts on this issue. Let me know if you would have rather had Episode 2 cards, or if you like the generic Star Wars card, or if you don't give a care which card the figures come on because you just rip the figures open when you buy them! Adios mis amigos y amigas! ~ Darth Diablo (aka Darth Devil [aka Miroslav Satan])

I don't collect carded but I really like the Saga cards. Very nice and it solves the problem of how to include non-Ep2 characters since it covers everything. Otherwise we wouldn't see OT or Ep1 figures for months, until the Ep2 hype died down. So I prefer the "generic" card as you put it. As long as it says Star Wars I am happy and really could care less about the card design. At least they got rid of that face on the left top corner of the card.

Well, I did think it was neat to have the individual movie on that particular card, but I agree that the blue saga card is good since Hasbro can incorporate other non-EP2 figures in the line.

The fronts of the cards don't concern me too much since I open everything. But for a while there, the cards had no designation on them whatsoever as to which figure came off of it. I keep all the cards, and the collection serves as a kind of library index when I want to know what I have and how many without having to go into the drawer and count heads. While the new blue design is pretty unappealing, I'm just happy that they've started I.D.ing the figures on the cards again.

heh, as a kid, i couldn't have cared less about what was on the card. i probably grabbed the first Boba Fett i saw and ripped open the bubble as soon as my parents had paid for it and we were outside the store. *reminisces*

Part of my therapy today is to give my son a figure (of his own) and actually let him tear into the package. And I have to watch him do it. gulp. I'm getting better. Really. :sur:

I assume that that is rare or something. I wouldn't know and most likely tore my own FF Weequay open without a thought. :)

Doubtful since it was never released in the US. That's why they go for $200 each over here.

Not that it matters as much to me anymore since it's SO much out there, but I really don't care for the Saga packaging. I've got some really nasty posts about this from WAY back in the day (check way back in this section about 5 months or more to see all the debates) but I've got nothing new to say really - I think it's generic, not very good to look at, and not terribly effective to sell the toy inside or the other toys on the back.

I prefered the vintage cards that showed the entire collection on the back, sure they were a bit small but it was nice to see.

Vintage style packaging with updated graphics, a HUGE reference photo on the card front, the ENTIRE Saga line listed on the back and no info whatsoever about the character would be a dream come true for me.

The Saga packaging is fine with me, in fact it's the best looking card design since the line restarted in 1995, IMO. Better than the cheap knock-off look of the original red and green cards, the cluttered look of the EP1 cards and the nauseating green of the horribly designed POTJ line. However, vintage cards are still the best looking cards overall.

I don't collect carded figs, but I like the Saga cards. They tend to all blur together on the pegs a little for me, but I think they're nice looking. The worst I've ever seen were the neon-green POTJ cards, yuck. I liked the EPI cards ok too, but not as well as the Saga cards. The vintage are my favorites but that's probably because it makes me nostalgic seeing a vintage card. :)

I'm all for the Vintage Cards too- The character picture on the side took up most of the card and the individual movie logo was cool too. Back then it did not matter whether or not the character on the card actually appeared in the movie or not. I guess the cards are the way they are these days is a marketing move. STAR WARS is the brand- so that's what all the cards say. Plus it is by far the shortest title so it can be printed in larger letters than Episode II- Attack of the Clones, which helps it stand out. I don't really have a problem with the packaging- vintage cards would not work with all the accessories figures come with now, and I think that's more important than the type of card.

I don't collect carded figures, BUT, I do only collect OT figures (mostly). Having the cards colored by their movie makes searching for them so much easier. When TPM came out, all I had to do was peek around and see if there were any green cards.

Think how much easier it would be to find Djas Puhr, Bespin Luke/Vader, Endor Trooper, and Ephant Mon if they were on a different color card than the rest-especially with the vast number of pegwarmers sitting there.

Hear, hear! I'd also like to have the vintage style cards returned with the entire collection on the reverse side. It could be done with enough room to put the character description and some action poses with the accessories towards the bottom. Why do you think the TRU figure poster is so popular? We want to see what's next!

I kinda like the new cards. I'm a carded collector and I think the new ones are very reminiscent of the OT carded figs (just minus the character pix). Even though they're pretty generic, they allow the entire Saga to be represented as a whole. What would suck though is if Hasbro decided to make E3 specific cards after starting the Saga packaging.

I like the new Saga cards a lot. It's definitely my favorite since the launch of the POTF line.

One thing about going back to the vintage style huge photos on the front; while I think it would be sweet to see that sort of packaging again, one thing to consider is that they wouldn't be able to put in some of the huge accessories we've been getting with the Saga line. Yoda, the Clonetrooper, Bespin Luke and Vader; non of those would have their awesome accessories because they would block the big photo.

I think they went a pretty good direction with the current design.:)
