What are you doing over there!?!?

I have noticed that there seems to be many habitual posters on this forum (myself being one of them). Where is it that you are when you do most of your posting?

I post M<->F 10 to 6 because work is so incredibly boring. It is funny when someone comes into my work space and I have to quickly get a different page up on my computer. It makes work so much more bearable though.:D

2 places really. I check the forums at lunch when I'm at work and again when I am at home.

Again....nothing special.

Either work or home. I probably post more during the day out of boredom. But sometimes I will check threads that interest me at home.

Mostly at work and little bit at home, when the dog isn't wanting to play. Its nice when you have a small office and in the architecture field right now its slow. So I surf for hardware pulls, new products, and of course check out the traffic on this site.

derek,

Well, I work on a computer Help Desk for a pharaceutical company. We have busy times and slow times. So, during the down times, there isnt much else to do.

Also, I am one of the supervisors, and often I am monitoring calls, or watching people's times, which allows me a little more freedom as well.

Well, I used to post here while at work almost exclusively. I was in the Army so I had a ton of free time at work.:)

Now that I am a civilian, I'm getting ready to go back to college so until then I just visit this site while sitting around at home.

At home in my orifice. If i had a WAO phone I'd check out posts on the move if that was possible. Sometimes I'm talking to someone and want to check a fact I've read in a thread. Just having the PC stuck in a corner at home is a hindrance. Technology moves real slow sometimes. I want the internet on the move baby. This superfast flipflopflying information superhighway aint so fast from where I'm standing. Tied to a big box in the corner of a room. Get with the programme you systems building people out there in silicon valley and Japan, we want james Bond gadgets that allow us to communicate as we do here but on the move and from any point on the globe no matter how remote or cut off from standard communications systems.

Sorry got a bit carried away. I'd talk to you guys while I took a dump if I could. That always concentrates the mind and I have my best ideas sitting on my throne. :)

Didn't need to read that.

Keyboards are obsolete, more or less. With the programs you can get where you just talk into a mic and it types it out on the computer would make "internet on the move" much easier of course.

I'm sure it might look alittle odd though seeing someone with a weird gadget in their hand while talking to themselves and spelling out specific words like L-O-L, or L-M-A-O while laughing.

Well, I have only TWO MORE CLASS MEETINGS LEFT of college! :D However, that means I won't be using the school's faster computers for SSG anymore. :( Therefore, that just leaves good ol' home! :)

As to LTBasker's example:
"Yeah, Obi-Wan was great when he- what? No. No! I'm online. I don't wanna- but, oh okay. Why can't Lisa take out- I mean why can't PadmeKewpiDolla87 take out the trash? @%$^*$! Oops! Hope I don't get banned! Yeah! I'm coming... Good thing there's an Edit button."

Can you imagine we Moderators' struggles with spoken posts? ;)

Jargo, I had the same idea about the throne. I have a really big bathroom, I could get a hub and hook up my second computer in the bathroom with my DSL.....hmmmm......actually, that idea ain't half bad. :D

at home in the "computer-room" in my recliner with feet up, surrounded by SW ships & keyboard on my lap. Can't use the voice recognition software 'cause I have the TV on most of the time, plus it tends to hear me when I have gas & interpret the sound by typing the word "the" too often!

I'm not choosy about people walking in on me while using the bathroom and the throne. Got nothing to hide - wait, that didn't sound good..... Got no qualms about natural functions such as nudity or evacuations of any description. I came into this world naked and I only wear clothes to keep warm. As i said, there's nothing like squeezing your head to concentrate the thoughts. I'm mostly pretty dopey usually, but I think like Einstein on the throne. :)

Can't understand why people are so retarded about natural body functions, Never understood the aversion to farts and wee and poo and snot. We all do it every day, it's all the same as anyone elses but the moment we come into contact with someone elses we go into paroxisms of shock and revulsion. Humans are so dumb. I say we de-evolved when we came down from the trees and started to wear furs. It's been downhill since then. All the other species get by just fine with pelts and feathers and scales and we have to manufacture our 'pelts' because we lost our natural body hair. We cram all these things into concrete and wood and steel boxes and call them homes when a cave would do just as well. If we lived under ground it would be dryer and warmer. better insulated against the weather too. We aint advanced exept further towards extinction. Things were better way back when. less complicated. Anyone want to go hunt a mammoth...?

I'm at home in the living room(sorta) typing away and laughing my butt off at most of you. Plus I'm also trying to entertain my daughter when she isn't watching Elmo, or Blue's Clues, or something of the sort. Thanx the Force she's out of the Telletubbies!!!!! Jargo, can you do something about them, Mate?? Like find out where they are filming and torch the set??? Just kidding(you never can tell with him:rolleyes: :D) You know how hard it is to concentrate while in the back ground you hear:

"THE MAILS HERE!!
Here's the mail
It never fails
It make we wanna wag my tail
When it comes I wanna wail
MAAAIIILLLLLL!!!!!!"

It can get to you after a while.

And Jargo, you being Einstien on your "throne" is not exactly the image I want in my head before I head to bed. Uggg! The dreams I'll have tonight.

walks away muttering something about thrones and enghlishmen

I'm at home in my living room. Usually it is the middle of the night, everybody is off to bed, and I am sitting in my underwear (a scary sight indeed). I'm always looking out behind me at the slightest noise, because we have these huge bay windows in the living room and my mother insists that the blinds be open.

I can't go on any other time cuz I would tie up the phone line if I went on earlier.

Jonna, I'm not trying to tell you to change your at-work surf habits, but your assumption that they can't track your net activity simply 'cause of the high number of users at your location is flawed. Besides the log on your own PC of all your internet activity, which is so deeply buried in your system that the files can't even be seen while Windows is running, as a manager in the IT field, and I can tell you that there is almost 100% certainly a proxy server that has a log of every site you visit. The proxy log includes all the sites you visit (sometimes even the addresses of some of the pop-up banners you didn't even visit on a web page), all the words you enter into search engines, and more, and it's linked to the IP address of your PC. The smartest companies even have the log duplicated to a server at another of the company's facilities, usually in a different state. This prevents a busted user from destroying the proxy server or backup systems on-site to eliminate the evidence. We've had married guys surfing 'Women in Prison Looking For Men' sites, a LOT of online gambling abuse, the usual porn surfers, you name it. People can get desperate when their livelihoods, even their marriages are threatened by the exposure of their Internet activity. The only deniability you have if the activity on that PC is ever questioned is if the PC is not logged-in to your network under your user name and password, but instead is on the network under some generic login like "guest" or "dept X user", which, if those logins have been granted unlimited Internet access, is poorly configured user permssions.
The company I was at fired several people for Internet abuse.
I used to post to SSG all the time from work, but with net admin privileges, I was always able to delete my PC's activity from the proxy log. ;)

Perhaps they can track it if they really want to, but there are people that have been doing it for years or just playing computer card games all day and no one has every been confronted about it.

Well, if you don't hear from me for a long period of time, you know what happened.

I'm at school posting 99% of the time. We have a kickin T3 line in my office next to the lab. So I'll set up a reaction and then sit around for a little while while things are percolating and check out SSG.

Right now I'm analyzing a compound on an instrument and waiting for the results. It's a nice break between working up a frenzy then sitting down for a few minutes.

At home, in my room. At school I could check the forums but not post. Now, of course, the filter seems to have some sort of AI subroutine that tracks every darn site you go to and subsequently blocks it!
