• Spy Photo from Comic-Con - First Reveal: Droid Factory Returning in 2013

Bothan Spies didn't die to bring us this information, but they did spot it at Comic-Con! The image shows "Droid Factory 2013" and is a "First Reveal" of new figures Padme, R2-D2, and Scout Trooper.

For those who don't remember, "Droid Factory" was the name Hasbro used for the Build-A-Droid series of Legacy Collection basic figures, the ones that came with a droid part so that collecting all the figures in a wave allowed collectors to build a bonus figure.

So the question is: is Hasbro bringing back the Droid Factory build-a-droid program to their Star Wars line next year? Stay tuned as we have Probe Droids scanning for more intel!

Awesome! R2-D2 looks to be a build-a-droid sculpt - so I wonder if he'll be a single-carded figure or the droid to be built from this wave (though given how flush his legs are to his body, he might be a "clean" repaint of the TAC figure, which would be good as well). I've been wanting a good, clean rocket R2-D2 for a long time now. The update to the arena Padmé is definitely welcome, too! This is probably to tie in with AOTC 3D . . . hopefully we'll get an update from Lucasfilm on that at SDCC or CVI as well. The Scout Trooper is a fine choice for a carry-forward, certainly better than some of the ones they've been putting into Vintage.

Hmmmm.... On the one hand, AWESOME!

On the other, dang, that might make me buy more figures than I've been buying.

Just a rumor so far, but people seem to think the Prune Face wave will be it for Vintage and that Droid Factory will once again be the main line. If true, I wonder if we'll see a return to larger pack-ins that wouldn't fit in the Vintage blister or if the cost of the line has gone up so much that Hasbro can't include those goodies without another price-hike.

        I guess we'll find out tomorrow….

But Droid Factory has never been a part of the main line. The Droid Factory 2-packs were always a retailer exclusive. Build-A-Droid was the mainline equivalent of Droid Factory.

We never really got those large accessories as often as people seem to remember, but I think those days may just be gone for good.

Well from the picture posted, I was lead to believe they were not the 2-packs we'd seen at Wal-Mart a few years ago, but were meant as single carded figures along the lines of the Build-a-Droid line.

And while it's true, we haven't seen large pack-ins like the vaporator or cantina bar sections since the TAC, we also haven't seen any 2-packs like the Jawa and Tredwell, Trinto Duaba and Dice Ibegon, or Paploo and NoAhpakk figures we saw in the Legacy line.

It's true that there were two separate sets of Walmart exclusive Droid Factory two-packs. But the Legacy Collection figures did use the "Droid Factory" terminology and logo on their packaging, and were numbered "BD01" and so on. The figures on the stormtrooper card also had the phrase "Build A Droid" alongside "Droid Factory" on the front. Take a gander at any of them.

Of course the bigger accessories weren't a constant thing, but even things like 2009 slave Leia's alternate legs, cantina characters' tables, or Jawas with droids would be very welcome.

Just back from The Great Gatsby, one of the best book-to-film version movies I have seen in some time. Am looking for the soundtrack, too.
