Star Wars: Detours. That’s the new comedic animated series coming from the team behind Robot Chicken, as revealed today at the “Super Secret Star Wars Panel with Todd, Seth, and Matt!”

First out once again is the host of the Main Stage, James Arnold Taylor. The voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi and approximately 25,000 other voices came out to pump up the crowd. “You are all part of the insane here, today, right now.

Oh... that was unfortunate. There were a few laughs, but a lot of misfires and the art style is grotesque, not humor-inducing.

Holy snot, that may be the least funny attempt at comedy since Good Burger.

Mabs' Cruisemissile Trooper story is funnier than this by a long shot. Of course, so's stubbing your toe and shattering the bones in it and having it swell up to twice the size of the rest of your foot.

I was at the second panel, where George Lucas made a surprise appearance (though I had just seen his more-surprising surprise appearance at The Clone Wars panel, so it was, uh, less of a surprise ). They showed some more actual clips here and elsewhere through the Celebration, many (if not all) of which have made their way online since then. Anyway, I like some of the character-based stuff, which is very much like the Robot Chicken specials (duh); Han returning to the Falcon to an annoyed Chewie and cold dinner was pretty funny. But yeah, a reasonable amount of it didn't exactly leave me with much confidence (I really don't need stormtroopers singing Katy Perry parodies in my life). I don't know how this could be a weekly series, but they didn't give any information on where or when or how this would show up. There are writers on it who worked on the Family Guy specials, the LEGO specials, and several other shows, so it seems like it could be several different styles of humor not blending together very well. We'll see.

I know from experience that sometimes the convention exclusive footage is better than the actual trailer (hello, TMNT and Superman Returns!), so I'm not willing to completely pan it yet. But this trailer stinks.

And Robot Chicken I find to be hit and miss. The funny stuff is hilarious, but about 9-12 minutes of every 15-minute episode isn't funny.

Ouch, that's not good because those episodes are only 11 minutes long, the slot is 15 minutes but 4 of them go to commercials.

Okay, then about seven minutes are unfunny. I never actually timed them.

It's hard to gauge because the bits are usually so short that 1 bad bit doesn't matter, but when there's a long bit that's flopping or several in a row, then it feels like forever.
