Legoland Florida hints at Star Wars-themed expansion

Legoland Florida plans to announce an expansion of the Winter Haven theme park this week, apparently one with a Star Wars theme.

The park sent a video to media outlets Tuesday with scrolling yellow type over a star-and-galaxy background, reminiscent of the opening scene of Star Wars.

"In two days' time in a galaxy 45 minutes away ... the esteemed council of Legoland Florida will reveal a top-secret expansion taking place within the park in the year 2012," the announcement states.


Legoland California has a Star Wars display in its Miniland — that part of the park that includes the most-elaborate Lego models. California's Star Wars section includes "seven of the most famous scenes from the six live-action Star Wars movies, as well as a scene from the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars." The California park also hosts Star Wars days, during which guests are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters from the movies and participate in Lego-building events with a Star Wars theme.


Legoland said it will announce the details of the Winter Haven expansion 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
