• Star Wars 7 Plot Will Be "an Original Story," Says Lucasfilm Source

EOnline.com is reporting the the new Star Wars Episode VII plot will be "an original story".

Well, we know that, whatever the plot of Episode 7, George Lucas won't have a heavy hand in the day-to-day creation of it. He's apparently written the treatments for the films, but he won't produce or direct—an excellent opportunity for another visionary to jettison Jar Jar Binks out of an airlock permanently.

As for the plot, Star Wars superfans have a theory on what they'll be seeing next. But I have a surprise for them: They're wrong. If you're a fan, you're definitely gonna want to read on.

That's good news for me. I wouldn't necessarily be interested in a film adaption of the Zahn trilogy and I've never been completely sold on the idea of the Empire surviving past ROTJ, since it makes all the efforts of the OT seem pointless.

The Empire is more than just a Death Star and an Emperor, it's regional governors and admirals in commands of Star Destroyers - each with their own battle forces for sky and ground. The Rebel fleet defeated a handful of Star Destroyers over Endor, but there have to be more. I've always liked the idea that the Imperial fleet would still be out there, splintered and confused, but still posing a threat. Imagine the fall of the British Empire at its height, do you really think army legions led by governors over India and the Caribbean and other territories are just going to walk away when they can either fight to restore the crown or simply take over for themselves? The Rebellion is in no position to fight them at this point, there are a lot of pieces of the Republic to pick up first. That said, a reunified Empire led by a clone of the Emperor is a big no-go for me, it's too repetitive. And do we really want another Prequels-like story of stoic, boring Jedi fighting faceless minions over nebulous goals for political gain? I don't. Star Wars needs more of a mix of sorcery and science, more regular joes as much a presence as wizards, the way the OT was. So if Disney's Star Wars future is wide open, then let it be diverse and brilliant, let it be more than the sum of old parts - don't let it become another repeat of Pirates of the Caribbean where the first movie is great, the next 2 diminish returns, and then the board of directors yanks the rug out from under the producers by removing the director and installing a new, boring script in its place.

I was hoping for Episode 7 to pick up 30 or so years after ROTJ and feature our heroes from the OT. Anything else would be a major let down (for me).

Personally for me, for it to be Star Wars it has to be Luke, Leia, and Han, especially if its listed as episodes 7, 8, and 9. I realize the actors can't reprise their role, but hollywood is capable of finding top notch look a likes. If it doesn't include the main characters, it should be known as Star Wars: Next Generation - Episode 1, or something stupid like that.

The original trilogy was about Luke, Han, and Leia. The Prequel Trilogy changed that, and made all six about Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. The Disney Trilogy should be that that takes the original trilogy and ties 4, 5, and 6 with 7, 8, and 9. So basically 1 through 6 tell a story, and 4 through 9 tell a story

For my two cents, I have always wanted the Thrawn trilogy to be made into a movie(s), even if it was animated. Shadows as well.

Didn't you ever see the third Family Guy SW episode? This has already been covered. Joking aside I agree things just didn't end like 'that.'

The more I think about it I think I'd rather see stand alone movies not trilogies. Treat it more like the James Bond series.

I don't remember how the 3rd Family Guy SW ties in, so I don't follow you.

For me, the post-ROTJ era has always felt to me like Leia taking more of a central role since she's basically set up as a major influence over the new Republic - she's the leader of the Rebellion and a strong-standing senator and her brother is the creator of the new Jedi order. But I honestly can't see where the conflict arises without either really boring political crap about reunifying the Republic, or fighting a new enemy either made up of the splinters of the Empire, or an unmentioned outside force, or the disenfranchised former Confederates who still hold grudges. In any case, a new enemy is going to pale compared to the existing Imperial threat of the OT, the Trade Federation and CIS surely did in the prequels. And keep in mind, this is still Star Wars, not Star Minor Things Happening.

Ryan Hayden Church (I think that's his name) kind of looks like a younger Harrison Ford.

I'm considering starting an online petition for Kelly MacDonald to play Mara Jade Skywalker. Because that would be super awesome wicked sweet gnarly cool.

I'd say this is definitely so far in "rumour" territory that you can slap a photo of Stevie Nicks doing a suggestive dance for Mick Fleetwood on the cover.

Interesting that he gives storytelling talks that discuss Star Wars. I liked Little Miss Sunshine and loved Toy Story 3, so I think he could be a good choice.

I agree; I just think it's unlikely at this stage that it's true.

Then again, they are shooting for 2015....
