• George Lucas Donating Entire $4 Billion Sale Price to Education

The Hollywood Reporter has been told by a Lucasfilm spokesperson that George Lucas plans to donate virtually all of the $4 billion he's getting from the sale of his privately-owned Lucasfilm LTD to an educational foundation. THR is reporting that this is a continuation of the pledge Lucas made in 2010 to commit the majority of his wealth to furthering the cause of education.

Online comic strip Chainsawsuit makes the interesting argument that Lucas' massive donation will end any and all criticism of Lucas over... well, just about anything he's ever done, really. It's a compelling point, but somehow I think we fans will still find a way to overlook the generosity and call out Lucas on the little stuff like Jar Jar.

I don't know, just because he donates a huge amount of money to charity doesn't make him above criticism.

Agreed, great idea, its not like he needs 4 billion... but he can still get criticism.

Creative criticism, yes. You're never immune to that.

Criticism as a human being? He just officially declared everyone to do that again (assuming he doesn't start eating puppies or something tomorrow) to be a huge douchebag.

I'm glad to see you guys aren't swayed with a $4 billion donation.

Here's the argument though, how can Lucas catch snark for taking a generation of Star Wars and Indiana Jones... and flushing it down the crapper with awful updates when we as the people making that snark often wrap up who he is with what he does?
