• The Clone Wars Wins 2 Daytime Emmy Awards

Star Wars: The Clone Wars may have finished production, but at Sunday's Daytime Emmy Awards, the voters nominated The Clone Wars with 7 nominations, and the peer panel for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored the animated series with an award for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program, as well as one for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for David Tennant's guest performance.

The award was presented by Carrie Fisher, and was received by series executive producer George Lucas, showrunner Dave Filoni, and producers Cary Silver and Athena Portillo. Lucas said on stage and again to Access Hollywood that the series has never won an Emmy before, nor had he ever actually won any award in his career prior.

David Tennant, the acclaimed Scottish actor famous for playing Doctor Who's 10th Doctor, also won his very first Emmy award thanks to his guest voice acting on The Clone Wars episode "A Test of Strength" as Professor Huyang, the ancient and wise droid who teaches young padawans how to build their lightsabers.

While this is the first win for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Genndy Tartakofsky Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series won Emmys for its work as well, but Lucas was not a producer on that series, so what he told you was true... from a certain point of view.

I'm glad that the series finally got some kind of recognition. And David Tennant's performance really stood out, so it's good that he was honored as well. Very cool!

Well that's just fantastic...just in time for it to be canceled. Thanks Disney.

Don't have cable so I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm pretty sure CN also aired episodes on Saturday mornings.

The first four seasons aired on Friday night, and then Cartoon Network moved its action block to Saturday morning for the fifth season, hence the eligibility for Daytime Emmys.

Exactly right, JabbaJohn, the move made this possible. And you're so right about Tennant's performance, if they had that caliber more often I suspect they would have gotten primetime emmy nominations.

I wonder if the cancellation had anything to do with the voting.
