The release comes two days before the start of San Diego Comic-Con, where Rovio will be in attendance, so a Star Wars-related release makes sense for that conference.
Meanwhile, Rovio last month teased a new "Angry Birds Go" game, which it said would be its "most thrilling and action-packed game yet!" The company posted a sneak peak of what's coming, and it seems to have a racing vibe – a sort of Super Mario Kart meets a slingshot.
"All your favorite characters are returning for a brand new title that will bring you closer to Piggy Island than ever before," the company said last month. "It's Angry Birds, but not as you know it!"
Rovio is no stranger to the art of teasing a new title. Ahead of Angry Birds Star Wars, the company posted a cryptic tweet reading "Something huge is on the way," with the "coming soon" hashtag, and a link to a Tumblr page featuring a hooded bird clutching a cartoon lightsaber.
Check back Monday for all the details about the new game.
