• A New Hope Opening Crawl Recreated in HTML

This one is as much for the web-nerds out there as it is the Star Wars geeks, but the fact that someone recreated the A New Hope 1977-version crawl using only HTML, CSS, Javascript and a couple handy files (the SW logo as a graphic and the opening theme audio) is darned impressive.

Tim Pietrusky, a web developer in Germany, was looking to find a web version of the crawl, but since none existed like this, he considered the code gauntlet slapped down and took up the challenge. What resulted was genius both from execution and from a technical standpoint, and then he made all that code public for you and I to enjoy.

As nicely as this rendered on this reporter's PC, it looked even better on my iOS and Android devices, which is saying a lot because that's a tricky bit of code to render for a mobile device. Yet the work is tight enough to execute even on a previous-gen iPod Touch, so kudos to Mr. Pietrusky for some mighty fine Star Wars-themed webwork.

You can check out the crawl itself by clicking here to visit the Star Wars crawl page on Tim's site, and for you code nerds he's kindly linked to his CodePen entry on it.

      What have you watched recently?

You can find it on Youtube. The version I watched was broken up into 6 parts and each part was about 45 minutes long. So it's pretty in depth. In fact,

This 2016 series was okay, but it doesn't have a different title, just SW Evolution like the 2001 one: text was interesting (how characters, well, evolved

I enjoy (but in all honesty, do not love) watching international futbol, but a nil-nil end to a championship match always leaves me feeling a bit empty.

Independence Day: Resurgence. Not a bad action/sci-fi flick. It had a different feel than the original. Maybe if the producers hadn't waited 20 years?

That's both cool and sad, BB. On PBS lately, they've had Ken Burns' National Parks documentaries showing, and I enjoy seeing places I've been before (but
