Arriving from a galaxy far, far away in summer 2011: the all-new Ultimate FX Lightsaber will provide one of the most authentic Jedi experiences ever for kids! The toy features a progressive light-up blade with vibrant LED lighting and authentic sounds, allowing kids to experience the Force in a whole new way. Available in Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader models with an approximate retail price of $34.99 each. Available in August.

This is a good idea, a kid version of the FX saber. Kids I suspect just want the ladder-up blade, and if this can competently deliver that experience with some hum and crash sounds, it'll work well on the market.

It will also be good for adults who want to hit each other with realistic looking lightsabers without worrying about damaging a $120 collectible.

I'll probably end up getting the kids a couple of these, if nothing else just so they'll quit asking to play with mine. The $35 price tag may actually cause the cheap plastic ones Hasbro currently markets to kids to lose favor with the kiddies.
