• George Lucas Brings the Force to the Season Finale of 'Prophets of Science Fiction' on SCIENCE

Ridley Scott, the creative genius behind several Hollywood blockbuster films such as “Alien,” “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator,” returns to SCIENCE this February with the remaining four episodes of the critically acclaimed PROPHETS OF SCIENCE FICTION.

Through the series, Scott explores the connections between science fiction and science fact. He takes us into the world of the creative minds that have inspired researchers seeking mankind’s next transformative discovery. From Isaac Asimov, to Jules Verne,to Robert Heinlein, to George Lucas, Scott explores how science fiction can become a reality. This week, peek into the mind of George Lucas, the man behind Star Wars.

From Luke Skywalker's light sabre to Darth Vader's Death Star, the Star Wars franchise is one of the defining science fiction works of the later 20th century. George Lucas' prolific imagination has already inspired two generations of scientists and engineers to push the envelope of technology. By introducing computers into the filmmaking process, he changed the way movies are made, and the way we all see the future. Surprisingly, many fictional technologies from "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" are now becoming a reality.
