Pretend to visit an alternate reality with this incredible package of seven 3.75-inch STAR WARS figures—one figure from each film in the Saga, and one figure only available in this collectible set. Each figure is individually carded with packaging that pays tribute to a “lost” line look that Kenner considered before going with their classic black-and-silver look! This Comic-Con special edition pack will be fans’ first chance to get the “lost” packaging, available this fall as variants in the STAR WARS VINTAGE COLLECTION line. In addition, this special collector’s pack will be the only place to get an exclusive treat for fans— a 3.75-inch carded JAR JAR BINKS in CARBONITE, which will be hidden in the center of the packaging and can be revealed by raising it through the “CARBONITE CHAMBER” top of the case. The other figures included are a standard JAR JAR BINKS (EPISODE I), CLONE TROOPER LIEUTENANT (EPISODE II), SHOCK TROOPER (EPISODE III), SANDTROOPER (EPISODE IV), PRINCESS LEIA (EPISODE V) AND DARTH VADER (EPISODE VI).

Anyone else noticing how pale JarJar's forearms look in all of the recent hi-res shots? I really hope that it's just a problem with the pics or sample and that the production run doesn't turn out that way. It almost looks like he's got compression sleeves on to cover his tats Allen Iverson style.

I see what you mean, his forearms are very much lighter than his hands or upper arms or the rest of his body. I would hope that's just Hasbro having pre-production stuff, but judging how badly they've been with those things lately - Tarkin's coloring, Blu-Ray Luke's everything - I couldn't venture to guess what we're really going to get.

$70, pretty much what I expected, but was hoping they'd lowball it since it's going to have tax as well. I'm getting one.

I don't think so, just this press release so far for Hasbro.

I know the press release says that it is being sold through the hasbrotoyshop.com booth but has there been confirmation that this will be carried online? I know HTS has always carried the ComicCon exclusives in the past, but HTS has been terrible this year in terms of new product and so I wanted to make sure before I counted on them to get one of these….

Didn't last year's Death Star set go online but sell out quickly? I can't remember (and I'm too tired to check right now). At any rate, I might know someone who's going and I do want the carbonite Jar Jar, so I might have him pick this up for me. $70 isn't too bad, that's $10 per figure, so right on with retail, I guess. I probably would be less interested if this were more expensive, though.

Yes, that did happen. HTS holds back a select small amount usually for online sales and returns, and then if any product comes back from the convention they put that up as well.

This set isn't crazy high, although IMO it feels a bit pricey for a multi-pack, but $60 for the GI Joe / Transformers-crossover Shockwave HISS set feels like $20 overpriced, and $100 for $65 of Transformers in game-accurate colors is downright insulting (they also want $25 for $13 of a repainted hard-to-get deluxe Transformer in special packaging, that was an easy no).

Shockwave HISS does come with a Constructicon-styled BAT, Destro, and, most importantly, 3.75" scale Soundwave as a tape deck.

The Starscream Skystriker from last year had Cobra Commander and a miniature Megatron pistol, it was $50, and the vehicle base price was $30. This HISS is a $20 base price vehicle and 2 figures from GI Joe doesn't really impress, so it's only the Soundwave tape deck and Energon dolly which attempts to compensate for the disproportionate pricing.

I'm honestly not trying to justify the mark-up, but the Shockwave HISS does require some new tooling for the cannons.

Starscream Skystriker should've been $30 (based solely on the vehicle price). At that time, Joe figures were going for $7, and we'll count Megatron as an accessory. Cobra Commander used almost exactly the same number of re-used parts as Ace from the Skystriker, so there's no point including him. So a markup of $20, or about 66.7%.

The HISS is a $20 vehicle, and Joes now run $10. He has two figures, both repaints, whereas the first (black/brown) and third (Retaliation) HISS Tanks had a mostly new figure. So, to be fair, we'll say the one extra figure is adding maybe $6 to the cost. Soundwave, again, we'll say is an accessory. Being generous, the central cannon might run an extra $4, and I'm pretty sure the side cannons are both based on one of the existing HISS side cannons (it has two different ones). So a total cost of $30 and a markup of $30, or 100%.

100% sounds bad, but a $10 increase in the inflated exclusive price for something that's once a year isn't awful.

The HISS requires only the barrel of the turret to be swapped out, and that is already a separate piece on the tooling, you can tell because the turret housing is screwed in half while the barrel is not. So it's a cheap change.

I dunno, I guess you could nitpick my point if you tried hard enough, but ultimately I feel like it's a pattern where every single entry is overpriced - what about Derpy the MLP figure, is there justification for that pricetag?

I'm not intending to nitpick. There's no doubt these figures are all a bit more overpriced than in the past, but it's not horrible. Any more, though, and it would be horrible.

IIRC, weren't previous Joe exclusives $12 for "regular" and $14 for "exclusive"? Both versions of Jinx are $14.99.

It feels like a nitpick, like any tiny thing is justification for Hasbro's significant pattern of gouging. A 55% increase on Bruticus is really bad.

I believe they were $12 and $12, actually, but I didn't buy last year's so I'm not sure if they had a bump then. I ended up having to sell both my Slaughters though to buy my mom a birthday present (I had just moved in here and was depleted on funds), those were definitely both $12.

Hasbro has released a new press release with higher prices, $10 higher on the SW exclusive, and $5 higher on the GI Joe Shockwave HISS. This deal's getting worse all the time.

I know it's only five bucks, but, where I was thinking, "I'll see if I can get one and, if I can't, I'll be cool with that," now it's more like, "Scre thisl I can paint my own BAT if I want one, and that Shockwave barrel probably comes from an existing Transformer--I could buy that and a HISS and make my own for half this amount."

Are you going this year, or were you going to try to get it online?

The barrel appears to be new, but it's really not terribly expensive to throw that together. The Soundwave tape deck with 3 tapes is kind of cute, but not $65 cute. The Energon on trolley is ok but same thing. It's the new HISS, if it had been last year's version instead I probably would have been more tempted.
