During the grand opening of Legoland California's Star Wars Miniland, part of the fun was tracking down all the fun little touches and animated bits. These animations and features add a lot of personality to the miniland dioramas. Some are operated by button presses, while others are on a timer. For you guys who could not make it to the event, I took videos of every animated element, though I did not capture the audio-only elements since there were a large number. The videos are presented in movie chronological order, the Miniland layout itself is a clockwise circle starting from the west, with the massive Christophsis battle diorama in the middle.
(a few video files were corrupted and thus unusable, these aren't edited for length, and the camera I shot with is a still camera with a mediocre microphone so much of the audio is not great.)
Episode I: Naboo
Episode II: Geonosis
(A second button and speaker was there for the Arena display, but that was the lone element not working.)
Star Wars - The Clone Wars: Christophsis
(There was actually more smoke from the other end of the battlefield, but the timing was unclear and the wind was making it difficult to capture on camera.)
Episode III: Kashyyyk & Mustafar
(This battle actually goes on for a lot longer, the video length on that is prohibitively large and doesn't really say anything beyond what you see there, so I didn't use it.)
Episode IV: Tatooine
(This one is nearly all audio, I shot the whole bit not knowing where the Falcon's lights come on - it's around 28 seconds in. The audio is much more audible in the park, obviously.)
Actress Carrie Fisher, known for her portrayal of Princess Leia in Star Wars Episodes IV, V and VI, made a special appearance in Carlsbad today to commemorate the grand opening of STAR WARS™ Miniland at LEGOLAND® California. Legoland California is offering guests a chance to take part in a building project. And the building materials will be? Ha! Stupid question. Beginning on Friday, March 18, guests can help in the creation of a mural depicting scenes from "Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back."
Anybody can take part because the process isn't that daunting. It's like paint by numbers. You match bricks to colored squares on Lego base plates. But it'll take some effort. Master builders

American International Toy Fair - LEGO Systems, Inc., makers of the world's leading construction toys, for the first time in its 50-year history in the American market surpassed $1.0 billion in consumer sales of LEGO® products, reaching its highest share of construction toys and total U.S. toy market ever.
“This year, we’re continuing to over-deliver on what children always expect from a classic LEGO building experience through a new collection and new themes, but we’re also finding ways to put a LEGO spin on new play experiences,” said Søren Torp Laursen, president, LEGO Systems. “Last year, we successfully added board games to our business and brought new users into the brand, which we’re continuing again with the new Ninjago franchise that blends three play patterns into one property to engage builders, action-oriented kids and gamers in a compelling story that can lead them from their favorite play pattern potentially into another.”
With the Star Wars: Knight Errant novel releasing on January 25 -- an original story involving the characters and situations introduced in the Star Wars: Knight Errant comics series -- the single question I've been asked most is what the difference is between writing comics and prose.
There are many parts to that answer, and I've touched on a few in some of the interviews out there. But one of the big differences is that in prose, I wear
