It may seem like the thumb may just be broken off but it's not. I've seen the same thing at my Wal-Mart and it's molded like that! I think this could be a very rare variant/error...

Geeze I didn't know that was a variant, I've got one opened standing right in front of me. I would say these are pretty common, as all the ones in the stores around here are like this. Not that I really care about variants, I'm more inclined to buy the best sculpt I can find when I'm looking.

Also maybe the the packaging is to tidht forcing the thumb to bend like Luminara's lightsaber that every one thought was a variant.

They most likely just got mashed a little during packaging. It happens to alot of stuff, and I don't think the plastic they used on the hand and fingers is all that sturdy. Variant? Not even an error. Just something that happened during packaging.
