I never read the series, but I did not like the covers. Too much jumbled together, plus those shapes all over the place. Or was that just the trade paperback collection? I forget.

I know someone who had a letter published in issue #2, I think. It was all kiss-arse, before I found out that the series didn't deliver like I hoped. It was ok, but it could have been a LOT better, SOTE was a great book but Evolution wasn't a worthy sequel.
