Silver R2-D2 Boil n' pop?

I was looking at my silver R2-D2 (2002, vacmetal) and noticed that its legs are backwards. I was able to use the boil n' pop to remove the legs so I could put them on correctly but I'm having trouble putting the legs back on. I've boiled up the legs and torso but the plastic pegs that hold the legs onto the torso don't get bendable enough to get them back through the holes on the legs. Any suggestions?

I did this years ago. I boiled the body and seperated the body into two halves. Then just be careful and glue it back together.
