Reality TV, where shall it draw the line?

Well, that beast we know as reality tv may just find its way into comic books. Wondering how this is possible? Well, nothing's been guranteed yet, but with how well super hero films are doing lately, and how well reality tv has proven to be, I just can't see this one being turned down forever. Well, enough of my talking, you want to read what the heck I am rambling on about, so here:

Reality veteran Bruce Nash ("Meet My Folks") has teamed with comic book king Stan Lee to search for the next big superhero, reports Variety. The mild-mannered duo will be pitching a fantasy-meets-reality show to the networks.

Project will begin with an open call for contestants who have created their own idea for a superhero. Dressed as their creation, participants will be judged by a panel of celebs who have played heroes in the past (think Lynda Carter).

Semifinalists, under the guidance of Lee, will then get to see their creation come to life as their costumed creations are professionally designed via a "superhero makeover." The remaining contestants will then be thrown into classic superhero situations (save the damsel in distress!).

"We'll put them in scenarios that will be right out of the pages of comic books," Nash said. "We'll try to put obstacles in their paths and exploit their weaknesses."

Nash said he and Lee will scout for both male and female superheroes, and may also put out a call for supervillains.

Lee will likely create a comic book franchise for the eventual winners of the show; depending on the project, the top superhero idea could also find itself in feature development.

D'oh! I should have copyrighted my idea...

Where shall it draw the line? Right around Lions killing Christians...

I will now pitch a reality series:

Fish out of Water Each week, we follow somebody trying to get involved in a society antithetical to them. Examples:
    • A muslim or jew trying to get ordained as a priest.
    • A gangbanger trying to join the police force.
    • A CEO working the fry machine at MickyD's
    • An 'alternate lifestyler' joining the military.
    • A porn star doing a PBS children's show.
    • A nun stripping.
    • A stripper joining a nunnery.
    • An arsonist joining the fire dept.
    • The possibilities are endless....

THE REALITY SHOW TO END ALL REALITY SHOWS...LITERALLY

    Here's my idea...

Each week, 13 different reality shows compete to see which one is best. At the beginning, because of time, each show gets approximately 3 minutes to impress a panel of celebrity judges that it's concept is worthy of more airtime.

Each week, one of the shows is voted off. As this continues, the survivors get more and more airtime to prove their worth until the finale when the top two have 20 minutes a piece to impress everyone.

All the losers will never be heard from again...even on the WB or UPN.

The winner will get a 13 week committment from FOX or TNT, a years supply of Rice-a-Roni, and a Chevolet Geo...stylish, sporty, economical...that's Geo.

They should make the Democratic race into a reality series where America can toss out a candidate every couple of weeks.

Well, the WB is making this show a reality:

The WB Network is looking for the Spider-Men and Incredible Hulks of the future. The network has ordered six episodes of "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?" -- a tongue-in-cheek fantasy contest show from reality guru Bruce Nash ("Meet My Folks") and comic pioneer Stan Lee -- for the 2003-04 season. In the series, real people with homegrown ideas for original superheroes will face off in character before a panel of celebrity judges who have played onscreen superheroes. Semifinalists will undergo a "superhero makeover" -- with a professional artistic gloss overseen by "Spider-Man" creator Lee -- and compete in various stunts and challenges that mimic comic book derring-do. The winner will then be eligible to have his or her idea developed and expanded by Lee's team, possibly for a comic book spinoff. The producers will conduct and film open auditions around the country in coming weeks.

This reality super hero show is not that bad of an idea. Sure it's lame and what not, but all reality tv Shows are. It seems to be a cross between American Idol and Fear Factor.

Imagine some of the nut jobs and yahoos going to that open audition. With their tights and capes. I mean it's a hour long freak show . Once the few "reasonable" finalists are found, it moves into a show similar to fear factor or Worst Case Senerio.

All in all not a bad idea for a show. I don't understand why people hate these shows so much. Would you rather have another typicaly poorly written sit com or yet another version of a cop/crime show? Reality TV is just another thing to fill time between commercials. After all that's why there is TV in the first place.
If you want to find it you have to shop.

As long as Dolph Lundgren is a celebrity judge, I am with this show.
