    Lets Talk Bowling for Columbine

Has anyone seen Bowling for Columbine yet? I watched this the other night and thought it was a pretty good documentary that is full of all kinds of eye opening material. I don't want to talk about anything political in this thread, the only thing I want to know is if you've seen the film and did you like it. IMO I think it's something everyone should see, just for the sake of seeing it. If anyone wants to discuss the films content in more detail feel free to P.M. me.

(Hopefully this can stay somewhat apolitical.)

I saw it and really liked it. Like Roger & Me, you laugh your butt off, then are really disturbed, and soon find yourself laughing again. It's an excellent movie that, regardless of your own political beliefs, makes you question quite a bit that's going on. Prophet or madman, the guy can make a great movie.

I thought the Heston interview was the most revealing. He had so many obvious opportunities to not look like an idiot, and ended up not taking advantage of any. Likewise the Dick Clark cameo. Do these guys not realize that if Michael Moore pops up to interview you, you don't blow him off or you'll appear in a very unflattering light in his next film?
    Tommy, close your eyes.

Yeah, Heston and Dick Clarke should know better and their actions or should I say lack of is what showed them in a poor manner as uncaring individuals IMO. I thought some of the other key elements of the film were the kids from Columbine who went to K-mart and got them to stop selling ammo for all guns except hunting rifles. Another great element is the interview with Marilyn Manson, for a rocker who looks crazy he sure seemed intelligent with some of his comments. Anyways I really like this guys approach to things, he makes you think about a lot of things you normally don't.

I enjoyed the film immensely. I just recently learned that some of the facts were skewed for the film and some of the scenes were staged, but i don't know. I still liked the film and hopefully, i'll pick it up once i get some money.

here is an article that debunks most of moore's claims and shows how he distorted facts and made things up to try to get his point across.

I read the article and it looks like he wants to bash Michael Moore over pretty much anything that is Heston related, could it possibly be that he is Heston's defense of some sort. LOL Either way I never took Bowling for Columbine as the bible or anything like that, it was a fun and entertaining ride. Nothing is completely 100% percent true when it comes to entertainment (stars, movies, news etc) they all distort the facts or embellish things to get their point or news across. I don't think this was something that was meant to be serious or at least totally serious (you can tell that by the cartoon), it was something to make you think, laugh and be entertained for an hour or two.

it was sold as documentary. it won a oscar for best documentary. documentaries, by their very nature are and must be completely fact based. if moore will give his oscar back and admit he made a lot of stuff up for political purposes, i'll be fine with that. you might look at this from an entertainment perspective, but michael moore dosen't and neither do i. he has an adgenda he's pushing and if he's going to do so, he should be honest about it. this "film" was nothing more than liberal/socialist propaganda........and i don't have a problem with that, as long as it's recognized for what it is, propaganda, and not a fact based documentary.

    Propaganda, you say ?

That's funny, because as much as I hear "right wingers" slamming BFC for being dishonest and intentionally deceptive, I hear the exact same things coming out of "The Right." In fact, I'm listening to Michael Savage on the radio at this very minute and a good chunk of that guy's platform is based on broad and sometimes innacurate depictions of those he disagrees with. Generalizations abound. I hear the same from Sean Hannity, all under the guise of "Truth."

Moore certainly does have an agenda, and in these films he seeks to raise questions. Not provide answers to everything, just raise questions.
OF COURSE he's a liberal. Is that supposed to be a well guarded secret?
I think any viewer who goes into a Moore project and accepts blindly everything he or she hears or sees . . . well that person is pretty naive. And it's the same on the other side of the aisle as well. It's just funny to me because the same people who I heard calling in to tear apart Michael Moore post-Oscar are the same ones who swallow in huge chunks ANYTHING that Bush, et al want them to believe.

And yes, Michael Moore DOES also look at it from an entertainment perspective as well.

I saw BFC in the theater and loved it. Some of the parts really touched me, some saddened me, and some things made me think that Moore is an absolute nut.
No big deal, I don't need someone to go to the trouble of pointing out all of the "lies" to me because I wasn't accepting Moore's views as gospel to begin with.

    hey caesar,

i sure hope you won't lump me in the same group as michael savage, as i despise him more than i do moore's "film". i actually like some of moore's stuff, but find no value what-so-ever in savage.

my biggest problem with "bowling" is it's being sold as a documentary. for those people who don't know any better(or are dishonest), they will accept everything moore says as fact to support their misguided ideas because the "movie" dosen't have any special effects in it or star a well known actress or something.

if the link i provided is true, moore is a liar and a fraud and should give his oscar back. that's all i'm saying.........and if rush or hannity or any other "right wingers" produce a film or radio commentary and make up facts and distort interviews or film clips for their own political gain, i'll call them liars as well.

if moore were an honest man, he would of declined the oscar and refused to allow his movie to be included in the "documentary" category.

Yeah, why am I not surprised this went political?
