    Contradiction in Ep1 scene-Underwater

Qui Gon Jinn tells Boss Nass that they could "use a navagator to get them through the planet core." So the jedi get Jar Jar Binks. But later, in the bongo, Qui Gon Jinn tells JJB not to worry because "the force will guide us." What is going on here?? It does not seem like they used JJB much for navagation. Qui Gon tells Obi-Wan "head for that outer cove" or something like that. Seems like the force is giving directions, not JJB.
One way to out think people is to make them think you think they'll think what you are not really trying to get them to think what you think.

I thought they just said that as an excuse to save Binks from whatever punishment the Gungans were going to give him for coming back to the city.

Like JBF said, he was also trying to save Jar Jar from his fate of breaking the "nocombackie law" Remember that Nass said that he was to be punished. In the novel and the script, it was detailed in that he was to be "pounded to death" for coming back. Since it was Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan that made Jar Jar lead them to the city, he was helping to save his life. Also note that the novel/script states that Qui-Gon felt in the force, that he would also play some important part in future events.

I think it was a ruse to get JJB out of trouble. He could have easily just used the life debt in the first place.
