Where's the rest of the OTC???

If ANYONE at Hasbro is reading this, hozseabout answering one simple question:

When is the OTC line really going to be released, at least the rest of it?

It's clear that 09/21/2004 is a big day for Star Wars fans:

    - OT on DVD
    - Soundtracks reissued/changed(?) for the OT on Sony Classical
    - New/Reissued versions of OT in Bookstores
    - New videogame (SW Battlegrounds)
    - Walmart commemorative figure 3 packs for each movie

    BUT

Is this also the day when the figures really hit?

I went on a little toy run today in both Wilkes Barre and Hazleton, PA.
It is true that some evidence is out there that the OTC (and VOTC) line are out there. Still, there is so much of the 50 figures + additional 'toys' that aren't out there at all (not counting what hasn't been released yet), I'm really wondering what's going on?

Stores not ordering alot? Problems with manufacture? shipping?

At this point, and I'm out on the hunt a lot (I'm sad to admit), this is what I can't find or can't find in any quantity:

Scout Trooper- this came out again...where is it?
Wicket- I saw a kid grab one in a Walmart in Bloomsburg, PA. 1, so far...
Spirit Obi-Wan- I've seen 3, total. Is this the hottest figure on earth or a short pack?
Tusken Raider- saw one in the WB, PA Target. Lots to go around????
    Jawas- saw none. Zip. Nada.
Snowtrooper- is this guy out? How would I know? How could I tell?
OTC #s 29-38- when are these bad boys coming out? Is the Scanning Crew
Tech still being made with NO carded photo leaked yet?
Stormtrooper- I've seen one of # sixteen on the OTC. Isn't this the supreme
army builder, even if it's the rifle/stand in line Death Star pose?
VOTC Vader/Yoda- not out there in any normal quantity. That kinda goes for Luke and Leia, although Leia can be found occasionally.
VOTC C3PO/Lando- Hasbro, this is a joke, right? Less than 2 weeks before the
DVD hits, and these are IMPOSSIBLE to find? Are you selling cases or running a tight not-for-profit???
Release dates that are accurate- Y-Wing, Slave 1, Sam's Club Falcon set,
ROTJ VOTC wave...these are being released and expected on shelves....when?

If gonna feel like a...wait for it...GALATIC FOOL if stores are planning on a blitz of merchandise, figure and toy-wise on 9/21.
BUT...this would be easier to collect if there was a midnight sale or a actual release date like the Ep1 and Ep2 stuff.
TRU has had NO Basic OTC stuff-I assume they're just gonna throw 'em out on 9/21.

I wonder what the rest of the year is gonna be like.
It's the start of the fall(soon) and already it's aggrivating seeing the same 2 Han Solo figures and Saga leftovers again and again.
Hobbies are suppossed to be fun, right

So, Hasbro, how bout it? When's the toy flood ready to rip? Or is this hobby simply RIP and I along with a lot of fans are to blind to see it?

    Your serve....

Re: Where's the rest of the OTC???

Just be at your local Target or what ever your favorite store is on the DVD release and you should be happy. At the SDCC I mentioned to one of the reps that I have found about 3/4 of the OTC figures and he stopped me and said their not supposed to be released until Sept 21. So either he's an idiot, or the stuff just was released early.

I agree and thanks for the reply.
I'm gonna assume that at this point, 9/21 has to be the release date for the brunt of the stuff. Again, no basic OTC at TRUs yet...gotta be the 21st!

Darth Alex, I don't know what part of Hazleton your checking, but it's been a hotbed for figures. Are you a member of www.pswcs.com ? That's the Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society. We have members that check out the Hazelton area all the time and they've been consistently the first ones to post new finds.

I'm in Pittsburgh were there's a tremendous amount of competition, collectors and unfortunately scalpers and yet I've found 28 of the 39 OTC figs (Including the exclusive Emperor).

I'll agree that VOTC has been extremely HTF, but I wouldn't worry too much. They make their way to market and all of those people who rushed to get them will then be complaining because there's just "old stuff". When in reality it's new for some people.

Anyway, be patient and you'll see all the figures. They'll be pegging for a few months. With only a couple of transitional waves before EPIII, you can bet OTC will be around until then and be easy to find.

It might even be worht it to wait until a little before EPIII. Myabe stores will clearance the OTC figs to make room for EPIII ones.

I've been finding OTC figs 2 or 3 at a time and that's how I prefer it. It doesn't slam the wallet so hard.

Oh, and Darth Alex, if your not a member of www.pswcs.com go on over to the website and sign up. We've got almost 200 members with a strong 60-70 active members. If you need figs, the fellows help each other out all the time.

Let me know if you join or your already a member.

Re: Where's the rest of the OTC???

Thanks...I've been thinking about joining the PSWCS. I was actually gonna get out of collecting in 2003....poor distribution and a severe lack of any CW SA CLones were the cause. But then, I decided to trude on and I'm glad I did. These boards are proof of how the PSWCS can help. So, look for me to join soon!
As for Hazleton, when I go on a toy run up there, usually it's when a fella by the name of Jedi Jones sends in reports on some other SW Collecting sites.
I usually hit the Toyworks, Walmart, Boscovs(BAAAD as of late, no SW!), and Kmart near the mall. I used to love going to Princes of the Universe in Frackville and the KB there, but since the "brothers" split the store hasn't been the same.
Is there anywhere else in Hazleton I should hit?

Again, thanks. I know Sith Lord 0498 has been a HUGE help, not to forget the other posters on the NEPA Just Found section. I try to post soon after a find to try to help the "community" out.
    Good Luck on the 21st!

I do hope your right. I have no faith in retail; if remnants of the HOF wave sit around with VOTC Ben and Han at Walmart and TRU for months, no one will be finding anything. I'm impatient because I really got burned on the 3rd wave of the non-animated Clone Wars figures. When stuff starts to sit around, orders and restocks go down, and then we all lose out.

With the way the VOTC 1 per case Lando/C3PO wave is dribbling out, I have my doubts about actually finding the ROTJ case with all 4 new figs in it.

BTW- 9/21 was a joke at retail. What a missed opportunity. I think I may just start ordering cases from EE and SWShop.com. I'm tired of hunting and although the PSWCS may be able to help, I'm not sure that retail and Hasbro really gets the message that people want to go to stores and buy toys.

I agree about the missed opportunity.

Here's what I think happened though and this is just a theory.

Retail stores were made aware of the DVD release. At the same or near the same time, they foudn out about the upcoming OTC line. Some stores may have just considered this another blah SW line and didn't think it would be profitable. They all may have been told to wait for the 21st before releaseing the toys, so that they would coincide with the DVD release, but you can bet someone wanted to get a jump on things. For instance (again just an example), Target execs could have thought, "We don't have a direct statement that says we can't sell these before Sept 21st, so if we sell them when we get them, we'll get the jump on everyone else for a little bit of time until they see what we're doing and start selling them before 9/21 also.

Bearing this in mind, notice how KMart started putting stuff out. Later TRU and Wal*Mart.

If any of them decided to wait, they could have been sitting on case of pegwarming product for months. Rather than eat that cost, better to get the roduct out ASAP and compete with other retailers.

By doing this, they've all just about depleted their stock of reserve inventory and therefore do not have any stock to put out on the shelves. This is backed up by the lack of product nationwide on 9/21.

I think only a court order may have stopped retailers from selling these before 9/21. (I wonder if this is what was done for 4/21???)

Anyway, instead of seeing tons of product at every store, we see meager picking. I bet though that the vast majority of people have been buying the OTC line as they've seen it. So in a small way we have ourselves to blame for the lack of product, because we've already bought it.

For those who haven't found much, I feel for you. You can always try eBay. bids are coming way down on most of the OTC figs.

    Good luck,
    -Sal
