Okay...let me get this straight: there are three different carded EPISODE II action figure types, right? What's the difference? Which type is the most like the vintage figures: neutral and relatively unposed? Any? What lines are the figures we've seen from? Obi-Wan, Padmé, and Jango look pretty stiff, but the Tusken Raider looks pretty standard--like she just walked out of the POWER OF THE JEDI line. If they can make the principle players anything like her, I'd be satisfied.

Collection 1: Basic Assortment. Main charecters only, articulated for lots of poses and extra play value. Most widely avaliable assortment. The Obi-Wan figure is part of this asst.

Collection 2: Collector's Assortment, scene specific figures and minor charecters that collector's want. Main charecters will appear in both collection 1 and 2. The Tuskan mom and child, and R3 unit are part of this one.

Deluxe: Figures with unique play features, accesories and movie sculpted figure bases.

Ok, I found it. It was from Rebelscum, and I am posting the exact story article here for to inform others, as it's already slipped off their main page. Plus no worries, Sir Steve has confirmed that all figures have some articulation.

What To Expect From Episode 2 Figures
Jeremy: Anything could happen between now and the final release, including all of this info being wrong but here's what I've been able to determine:

There are three ranges of Episode 2 toys. The Basic assortment is designed for the non-collector (i.e. kids) and aren't as highly posed. The stress is on playability and they all have added features like the small accessory in the Obi-Wan Kenobi (Coruscant Chase Scene). It will be the Basic assortment that will contain the core characters and will be available in more abundance to satisfy the "Converted" and "Latent" target audiences.

The highly posed ones are from the Collectors' assortment. The Collectors' assortment will have the fringe creatures and lesser characters as well as core characters (heroes and villians) in poses that specialise them for specific scenes. There will be some character cross-over between these two ranges. The Basic and Collectors' assortments will share characters but their accessories, poses and special actions will differ but the price tag on each will be the same.

The third is the Deluxe figs, and they'll have some very, very cool features. Several come with special base plates that will allow them to do some very incredible stunts. Included in this range are a number of beasts and larger characters that are too small to be part of the Beast Assortment.

You've got it all wrong.

The "Basic Assortment" will have something called, CommTech chips packaged with the figures. This will allow for maximum playability, as kids will be able to play their favorite lines from the movie. Which is whatever we (Hasbro) decide is their favorite lines from the movie.

The "Collectors Assortment" will come packaged with exclusive 35mm slides that are of actual scenes from the movies. Each figure will have it's own slide.

The "Deluxe Assortment" will have what will be called a Jedi Force File, each figure will have it's own "JFF" (even though not everyone in the line is a jedi).

I'm probably going to pass on the DELUXE figures and only get the BASIC ones along with the better figures from the COLLECTOR series.

maybe i'm stupid, but the basic assortment and collectors assortment have the same descriptions. both have limited articulation and are in fixed poses. at least that's the way i read it. maybe i need to be tested to determine my comprehension skills and maybe my spelling.

and then the deluxe line looks horrible, just like the episode 1 deluxe figures were.

I think JarJar's source got it backwards a little - no fault of JarJar's though:

I think the Obi-Wan, Anakin (with Kenner style lightsaber) and Jango Fett that we've seen are collection 1. They have features or accessories but are one-scene wonder posed. I don't see the articulation in those figures.

If Collection 2 is more collector based, then it makes sense that Zam Wessel, Shaak-Ti and others more like POTJ figures are from here - so they would redo Obi-Wan and Anakin (in the black leather Jedi attire?) for this collection, hence are first resculpts.

The Deluxe could include that Padme we are seeing, since she comes with rather large columns that she is chained to during the Arena Battle. Or she is Collection 1, and figures like the Mace Windu with an Arena Battle monster is more like the deluxe. Hope that monster is also poseable....

Oh brother ......this sounds disasterous. I agree with evenflow.......someone in the R&D dept. scored BIG with this cash-milker. Add a pin to the legs, throw in a tiny staff or some dumb accessory....and sell it all over again! Brilliant! Yeah..I BET there will be "crossovers".....like 99% of 'em. "Here's our "latent audience" Plo Koon for $7.00. You'll notice his legs move. Ah yes, and here's our "collector audience" Plo Koon, also for $7.00. You'll notice his legs don't. Oh, and here's our "Deluxe" Plo Koon. He's basically the "collector" Plo Koon but has this cool plastic rock and communicator. He's $16.00 (Mortgage payment late notice not included).
