The AT-RT ..hmmm...what can I say? SUCKS! The Biker Scout....I mean the BARC Trooper...I mean I've seen bootlegs on www.toysrgus.com that were much better than the AT-RT driver. In a real life military application (or in all our cases On-Line via SW Battlefield or SW Galaxies) the pilot is in a fully clear shot range and the rig can easily fall into enemy hands. What is the necessity of the Empire/Rebuplic of such a WMD when a droid could do the same task? Possibly in the future (Epsiodes IV,V,VI) where continuity is concerned and Palpatine did ban Droid armies then maybe I can see the need for an AT-ST or an AT-AT where the armour plating is so thick and heavy that one may presumed that such vehicle is a droid or AI controlled. When I say this I feel cheated unless the AT-RT is in reality an Anti-aircraft/Anti-personnel unit and not a tank like the afore mentioned AT-ST and AT-ATs were.

My main problem with the AT-RT is that it could and should have been an AT-PT, just like the Republic battle cruisers first seen at the end of AOTC could and should have been Victory Class Star destroyers. I think the expanded universe novels deserved a bit more acknowledgment than Lucas gave them. After-all they did rekindle the popularity of Star Wars in the early nineties.

Your technical point about the AT-PT is quite valid about the controller being exposed. And guess what an AT-PT would also have made more sense in this regard because its a closed armoured cockpit.

Well, when it comes to military application...what's the point of any walking vehicle? Repulsorlifts are much better. The SW Technical Manuals I believe talk about morale, and how the AT-ATs use legs to strike fear into the hearts of those Rebel scum!

Because a giant metal chicken is so much more interesting to see on film than a boring old hovercraft.

You tell 'em BB. HOOOAH! The Trade Fed's ships were boring in TPM with said repulsor lifts ! Bonus points for Beckmen for pointing out that seeing a giant anything coming at you would lower morale! The DK books are always apologetic when it comes to continuity or topics of concern to gamers.

I Also Was Trying To Figure Out What It Was For. It Was In Clone Wars Cartoon If I Remember Right. Also It Could Be A Modern Day Mounted Police. Do Repulser Lifts Work In Tall Grass?what About Taking Prisoners And Marching Them. Could Be Used As Escort.say Maybe On Kasyyyk. In The Over Run Forests Where It Would Be Difficult To Get Ships In To Land.

No convert here, my first impression on seeing pics was "Mini Rig" like the CAP-whatever it was
If it was an AA platform I guess it makes more sense, but the design seems to be the most "Low Price-point Toy" inspired design so far (althought GG's stupid "bike" could take that honour to, have to see it in action)

But yeah, why you would wanna design a vehicle that basically improves the range of an effective headshot against the "pilot" is FAR beyond me
