Authenic Costume Replicas - $100!!!!

You read that right, fellas. According to an article on Master Replicas in the online edition of the Chicago Sun-Times, MR's costume replicas will be in the neighborhood of $100, and they are wearable Halloween costumes!!! These costumes will be "identical to those seen on the screen down to the last stitch" according to MR founder Steve Dymbso.

Guess I know what I'll be wearing this October!!

LOL!!! That does seem to be the next step, doesn't it? I'm just thrilled about the idea of movie-accurate costumes being only $100. Last year, I checked out costumes at Party City, and they were nearly $50-75 and nowhere close to being on par with film costumes. It's a very reasonable price, and MR is probably banking on fans buying up the costumes in bulk come this Halloween.

That has to be a typo. There's no way that a replica costume would only run around $100. I'll be amazed if true, but I have an odd feeling it's a goof.

About a week ago I was thinking how expensive a full suit of Darth or ST armor (from MR, of course) would cost. For a Stormtrooper, I'd guess that for an 'average' or display size, it'd be about 20-30,000, and for a custom fit, 50-80,000. Darth would probably start at 50,000. What do you think? Maybe, since there are so many resources for building your own armors, MR would charge less to be more competitive?

Considering MR can do the FX sabers for the same price range, I'd say they can do the costumes for $100 easily. Remember that MR is trying to tap into a larger market.

I dunno, I bought a Jedi Robe, and costume with the boot covers, it was very cheesy, and it cost me over $120. I'm not going to mention how much I have spent putting together my Stormtrooper armor, but it was over $100, I gaurantee. I doubt very seriously your going to get anything proffesional looking for $100, unless that's the rental fee.

The full armor suits are going to be much more than $100 guaranteed, but the cloth costumes can probably be made and sold at a more reasonable price if they are going to make them at a high volume. Rubie's has always overcharged for their costumes, considering their stuff is made from 100% polyester. And, as someone else said, the MR costumes may be done in separates. I'm pretty confident MR can make a Tunic and pants for $100, a robe/cloak for $100, and a pair of boots for $100 as well. However, any discussion we have right now is just speculation. Who knows, MR may surprse us with a high quality costume for a price relatively lower than Rubie's and made of superior materials from a superior design. Considering what MR can do with the qulaity of the FX and mini lines for an incredibly low price, I wouldn't put it past them to be able to sell the costumes at a reasonable price point as well. There are a lot of factors that can bring the price done when making these things in volume and having a dedicated line of costumes.

If the SW costume line takes off for MR, I'd also like to see MR make some Star Trek costumes as well like full Klingon armor, a full "First Contact" style uniform (with zip up undershirt, pants, and boots), and a full classic movie style uniform. I think they'd be far more complerte and better quality than the Rubie's or even fan club ones.

For anyone that hasn't heard elsewhere, the MR costumes are going to be in the $400 range. However, that price includes boots, belt, and all other articles of clothing.

I had the same reaction you did, no way we were talking about $100 for a costume, but then I read the story and the context changed that...

Jedi outfits are first up on the list. The costumes are fashioned after those from the films with the seal of approval from LucasFilms, which provided actual fabric and pattern samples for Master Replicas.

"The items will be identical to those seen on the screen down to the last stitch," said Dymbso.

The price will be in the neighborhood of $100.

This is all fabric and all fairly basic-looking, and as Knightone points out, it could be done parted out or just reasonably-priced compared to Rubies' crap (I'm sorry, but Rubies continues to disappoint me at nearly every turn).
