I've been using 600x800 for the longest time, but I'm thinking about switching to 1024x768, 'cause I'm finding more and more that I'm having to side scroll on newer webpages...
since i began using 18" or larger flat panels, i have been keeping my res at 1280 X 1024. it typically eliminates the need for side scrolling. anything more makes text too small to read confortably

This is why we are asking... we would like to design for 1024 and make it fit at 800 instead of the other way around.Originally Posted by ronhudy

I'm using a flat panel 20" Macintosh Cinema Display.
WOW! I still have the 17" that came with my HP. I suppose I'm suffering from "monitor envy"...Originally Posted by bigbarada

Guys,
I usually check SSG from work on my SUN workstation. It's resolution is kind of wacky. The full screen resolution is 1268x989, but my confortable window viewing area is 613x875 (that's the size I normally use for a browser window). It is also difficult to get my computer admins to change my resolution (only done it once), so it's not something I can modify.
Most webpages don't cause me much of an issue, but if they are bigger normal, I have to mess around with the size of the window, and might decide it's not worth the hassle.
I have more problems with animations. The browser world for SUNs isn't very open, and the machines aren't made for video. Any significant animation will load down my machine and keep me from getting work done. I understand advertisers have animated GIFs and such, but please remember that if you add fancy animations and/or graphics, it may force people on low resource computers away from your website.
That said, I have no problems when I connect from my machine at home. Thanks.
