Question about R-rated movies...

I'll be 17 in two weeks, and I wanted to know if you can get into R-rated movies without a problem at 17 if you provide I.D. Would they give you a hard time if you provide I.D. or would they say something stupid like, "Oh, you have to be with someone over 18"? I want to know, cause I really want to see Wedding Crashers.

You shouldn't have a problem. What about NC-17 movies? You only have to be 17 to see them and R is below those so you shouldn't have a problem. I'll definitely be seeing Wedding Chasers too. That looks too damn funny.

You shouldn't have a problem, you are allowed to see R rated films at that age. I'd carry my I.D. with me to the theater if I was in your shoes though for at least the next five or six years depending on how young you look.

A funny side story: Fortunately for me I've been blessed with a youthful appearance but as nice as that may seem it can be a pain in the butt trying to convince someone you're the age you say you are without I.D. The last time I got carded for an R rated movie I was 26 years old and I didn't have my I.D. with me because I left my house in a hurry and my friend was driving. They almost didn't let me in the theater but I raised a pretty big stink and they caved in. My friends still make fun of the incident to this day.

I'm in the same boat as you Hellboy. I'm 23 and I've been carded at WM for buying spray paint. I didn't even know they had to I.D. for that until then. I even get carded for scratch off tickets. I thought they sold those damn things to anyone.

I'm 27 now and I got carded for an R rated movie by some kid not too long ago (can't remember what movie exactly), but I remember blurting out "Are you ****ing serious?"

He was.

I love living in a college town. I get carded for EVERYTHING by THE SAME PEOPLE who SEE ME EVERY DAY. I fail to understand how so many people on this campus can get M.I.P.'s. If I buy beer and run back into the store 30 seconds to get the smokes I forgot to buy, I get carded again (sadly, that's a true story).

I remember "back in my day" when stores would sell to minors but charge double for a pack of cigs to off-set the cost of the daily fines

I got carded a few years back, when I was 20. I had a full beard and bought a ticket to see, I think it was royal Tenenbaums or somethinga nd the little punk bastid asked to see my ID. I was like, "hey, i got my COLLEGE ID and my VOTER REGISTRATION...will that work?" and then i threw my ID at him and told him not to ever look at another adult until he got hair in the right places. Little punk.

I haven't returned to that theater to this day and I refuse to.

First off GG I don't think you should have a problem, if you act your age and look like you should be there it likely won't be an issue. I'm tall so people have always thought I'm older then I really am. I even recall helping sneak in a 17 year old Caesar into a casino.

I haven't gotten carded for a movie since... well I don't think I ever was actually but you know Rocketboy I used to think like that. When I was in my early 20's I used to think "WTF man like I look 20?!?!" when getting carded at a bar. But now that I'm in my "late-middle-twenties" (ie 27 like yourself) I actually kind of enjoy being carded. That way I don't feel as old.

I actually got carded the other day for ciggarettes. I bought them at SHeetz, the same damn one I went to for years. They say its policy to scan all DL's into their computer now. I went to the other one near by and they didnt give two figs for ID. Go figure.
