Poor Eccleston, that was not the career path for him.

Matt Smith seems to me like the type who will just up and retire from acting.

I've told my Whovian friends that that's not entirely an insult. Eccleston was one of the very few things about Rise of Cobra that didn't suck. Him playing Destro in a good Joe movie would be awesome.

I've been told they chucked the 13 regenerations limit.

I was not a big fan of the season finale, but I suspect it just leads right into the 50th Anniversary. I figured they would kill Smith at the end of the Anniversary, not the Christmas Special.

I felt Smith did a fair job with the season, but the writing really wasn't up to par and most episodes were difficult for me to get into. Maybe Smith felt the same way. After the big build up of the whole Amy/Rory/River drama "A Good Man Goes to War" and all, everything else felt flat. Not to mention all the build up over "Trenzalore" and the Impossible Girl. It's hard to make the story as good as the build up to all of that.

Oh well, I am looking forward to the 50th and the Christmas Specials. I wonder who will be the new Doctor?
May the force be with you.

If they've removed the regenerations limit, it hasn't come up in any fiction, tv or written or comics, that I know of. The Master got a cheat... twice, but those were different circumstances AND the main one required the Time Lords who are now gone.

The Sarah Jane Adventures, which is considered cannon.

Also, the 12 regenerations was something they only made passing reference to, but just kinda stuck, meanwhile Jon Pertwee said he was thousands of years old and it just kinda slides.

The truth is they say things in the show sometimes that conflict, the Doctor also made a passing comment that he can regenerate 507 times.
May the force be with you.

That would be cool. There was a lot of the 2nd Doctor missing. It would be nice to fill that in, especially the Daleks episodes.

That SJA moment where he says 507 is the SJA canon story you're talking about, and it seems to be the Doctor proverbially pulling Clyde's leg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9D-2HJMD9s

Too good to be true, I can't get my hopes up too high just yet. But that'd be amazing.

Another more detailed link about the discovery... sounds like it is indeed real.
