An engineer sacrifices his family’s happiness and pushes his men to the brink in order to build the first transatlantic tunnel in the 1935 science fiction film The Tunnel.

A young girl is abducted by two men on her way home from school and along with another young boy the men have previously taken, is used to make child pornography and prostituted to pedophiles, in the agonizingly unflinching 2007 drama Gardens of the Night. Later as teens, the girl and boy live on the streets, making a living prostituting themselves until the young woman learns at a shelter that her parents didn’t abandoned her as her abductors told her. She is reunited with her parents and returns home, but has difficulty adjusting and ends up returning to the streets to look for her friend. Tom Arnold plays one of the girl’s abductors and John Malkovich is the counselor at the shelter.

A college-professor’s new-fangled television set becomes sentient and tries to control his life in the ridiculous 1953 science fiction comedy The Twonky.

Hired guns Erastus “Deaf” Smith (Anthony Quinn) and Johnny Ears (Franco Nero) help Texan President Sam Houston fend off threats to the new Republic from both within and without in the watchable 1973 western Deaf Smith & Johnny Ears. Quinn’s character, a deaf-mute, has no dialogue in the entire film.

A group of spoiled actors making a war movie find themselves in the middle of the real thing in the 2008 comedy suckfest Tropic Thunder.

Greek boxer Salamo Arouch (Willem Dafoe) fights matches at Auschwitz for the camp commandant in order to stay alive in the engaging 1989 drama Triumph of the Spirit. Edward James Olmos plays a fellow prisoner, a gypsy foreman in charge of Dafoe’s Jewish work detail; and Robert Loggia co-stars as Salamo‘s father.

Observe and Report - A dark comedy rather than the the typical comedy the trailers made it look like (I knew that going in), but I really enjoyed it.
There are some really hysterical moments.

A man (James Stewart) saves his younger outlaw brother (Dean Martin) and his gang from the gallows, robs a bank, is hunted mercilessly by the town sheriff (George Kennedy), and finally meets his end in a shoot-out in Mexico in the excellent 1968 western Bandolero! The lovely Raquel Welch and the grizzled Denver Pyle (Uncle Jesse from The Dukes of Hazzard) co-star.

Winston Churchill leads Britain from 1940-1945 during the second world war, but loses the people’s confidence after the conflict’s conclusion in the fascinating 2009 drama Into the Storm.

Since I've been on-call and can't venture away from the house too much, I sat down and took advantage of some rare tube-time (TV doesn't happen too much for me due to my schedule in general...). So, I took in:

Ben Hur. Still a great movie 50 years later; followed by the unintentionally comical Genhis Khan with Egyptian actor Omar Sharif playing the Mongol chieftain, the late French actress Francoise Dorleac as his wife, Long Island, New Yorker Telly Savalas as Mongol comic relief, and Englishmen James Mason and Robert Morely cast as Chinese. What a hoot!
