A group of students find shelter in a creepy research facility where scientists have been experimenting on a comatose serial killer whose mind invades their dreams in the bad 2006 horror movie Incubus. Tara Reid stars.

A dying vampire (Udo Kier) and his servant travel to Italy in order to find a virgin woman whose blood can cure him in the 1974 gory exploitation flick Blood for Dracula. After finding a suitable family with four beautiful daughters, the unlucky Count discovers that the older marriage-minded girls have all lost their virginity to the handyman (Joe Dallesandro). The nosferatu then sets his sights on the family’s fourteen year-old but the handyman discovers the monster’s scheme and quickly deflowers the girl before Dracula can have her. The movie actually has a scene with Kier crawling on the floor, lapping up the spilled blood from the girl’s broken hymen. Actor / director Roman Polanski has a cameo.

An amnesiac student learns that the ghost of the girl she and her friends tormented has returned to seek revenge against them in the 2004 Korean horror film The Ghost.

An alien from a dying world abducts five people from every corner of the globe and gives each one a capsule that has the power to destroy any target the wielder desires in the excellent 1957 science fiction movie The 27th Day. The aliens want the Earth for colonization, but they will not take life in order to do so. So they believe mankind, with it’s warlike and self-destructive tendencies, will annihilate themselves if given the weapons to do so. The capsules are only effective for 27 days before they become inert and no longer usable, so the people gifted with them (or their governments) must decide whether to destroy their enemies or put the weapons aside and try to get along instead.

Ponyo. Simply put, a masterpiece. I've still not seen Up, but, barring that likely strong competition, this is easily the best movie I've seen all year. It's, in my opinion, at least, even better than My Neighbor Totoro--the intended audience is the same, the quality of storytelling is about equal, but Ponyo doesn't leave me with a "that seems like the pilot episode of a TV show that doesn't exist" feeling.

Regardless of any bias you may have regarding Japanese animation (I can't stand a good deal of it, personally), this is a must-see. It's so good, I can forgive the fact that the two main characters are voiced by the younger siblings of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers (and, in fact, perform a quite catchy English-language translation of the original theme song).

After being on the Very Long Wait on Netflix, Michael Jackson Live in Bucharest from 1992 finally arrived. That man did put on a show. Course, of the people who passed out and where body passed up to help, my favorite was the guy in the wheel chair.

A scientist (Robert Loggia) must devise a way to stop an alien projectile that is circling the world at low altitude and destroying everything in its wake in the improbable 1966 science fiction film The Lost Missile.

A motorcycle gang leader (Peter Fonda) and his lieutenant (Bruce Dern) escort one of their fallen comrades to his hometown for a raucous funeral and burial in the 1966 drama The Wild Angels. Also features Nancy Sinatra and Bruce Dern’s wife at the time, Diane Ladd (actress Laura Dern’s parents). Director Peter Bogdanovich has a very brief cameo in this Roger Corman cult film.

Clumsy Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) thinks his beautiful murder suspect (Elke Sommer) is innocent, much to the chagrin of his boss in the 1964 comedy A Shot in the Dark. Blake Edwards directs.

A caterer prepares a sumptuous banquet of human sacrifice to resurrect an Eygptian god in Herschell Gordon Lewis’ horrendous 1963 horror movie Blood Feast.

Last night I watched Big Fish. It took me a while to get into it, but I liked it quite a lot by the end. Having a guy dressed as Pee-wee, if even for a split second and barely in the frame, makes any movie a-ok in my book.
