What's your favorite Star Wars Expanded Universe Era?

    Pick a favorite era from:

Golden Age of the Sith (Naga Sadow, etc.)
The Sith War (Ulic Qel Droma, Exar Kun, Nomi Sunrider, etc.)
Knights of the Old Republic (video game and comic era)
Darth Bane & Jedi vs. Sith

The Rise of Chancellor Palpatine and training of Obi-Wan
TPM era and training of young Anakin
    AOTC and Clone Wars era
ROTS and rise of the Empire era (also including Jabba's ascendancy)
Droids in action: R2D2 and C-3PO, their lost years
Young Han Solo and birth of the Rebellion era

Post-Yavin, the rise of Luke Skywalker
Post-Bespin and Shadows of the Empire
Post-Endor and pre-New Republic (Rogue Squadron era)
New Republic era (Thrawn, Jedi Academy, marriage of Luke and Mara)

Young Jedi Knights era - training of Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo

New Jedi Order - the Yuuzhan Vong invasion
Post Zonoma-Sukot - the Dark Nest era
Legacy of the Force era - the betrayal of Jacen Solo

Legacy Comics era - the adventure of Cade Skywalker

I'm going to have to think long and hard over this myself. I'll leave the list posted without my own pick for the moment. See what you choose.

Prequel-era, from the training of Obi-Wan to Dark Lord.

Least favorite: I'd say Legacy, but I don't even acknowledge it as existing, so Tales of the Jedi era.

I'm writing a non-Star Wars novel, and becoming an author is incredibly difficult. But meanwhile, I think that really, mostly folks that read and enjoy Star Wars books will participate in this thread. It's not really for folks to come in and bash the EU when they've never really read a book or comic. Rather it begs the experienced Star Wars reader to acknowledge what they've liked best.

I'm narrowing it down for myself:

    I really liked....

The Sith War era with Ulic Qel Droma, Exar Kun, etc.
AOTC and the Clone Wars era
Young Han Solo and the birth of the Rebellion
New Republic Era (Thrawn, Jedi Academy, etc - but there are some turds here)
Young Jedi Knights era - training of Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo

I'm not sure about the future Jacen Solo eras yet. I'll have to give that some time.

You know, honestly, the Sith War era was epic, it featured a full cast of relevant characters that were all well-utilized, and the story peaked and resolved well, contained in 5 series of comics that made a point for themselves.

If I compare that to the Clone Wars, a lot of "struggles for the day" added bit-players that were really only used in their small circle of interest.

Meanwhile, Han Solo was going somewhere, but his legacy is over a lifetime and his days as a drug smuggler are tantamount to his character development, but not the epic parts of his life that the Battle of Yavin through Endor might be, or his role as a prisoner of war during the Black Fleet Crisis and facing off with his own son during the Legacy era.

The Young Jedi Knights' training era is on a similar par. The Solo twins were shaped into the young adults they'd become in this time frame, but it was not the pivital point of their life.

Finally, the New Republic era contained some gems like Heir to the Empire, but Children of the Jedi, Planet of Twilight, The New Rebellion, The Crytsal Star, all of that crap came into this time frame and I can barely stomach re-reading it.

Nah. I'll go with Ulic Qel Droma and Exar Kun - the Sith War was some very series stuff and much less confusing than the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

I like the Pre-New Republic and the NJO. The Pre-New Republic showed you can have Star Wars without having any or much main character involvement. The NJO has to be taken in context. Read the last (second?) chapter of Vector Prime. It is all about how lucky have been, how little they've apreciated the danger they were in, and how little they've grown as people. It showed that change needed to come and it did. Now if Lucas didn't insist on the killing of Anakin Solo, we'd be having a whole different debate where Legacy of the Force/Legacy are going. Of course, the Yuuzhan Vong were more interesting as Satan in either Pardise Lost or The Divine Comedy.

i liked the Republic comic series and so Clone Wars would be one of my picks.

i also like the Sith War and once it gets flushed out more, i'll probably pick the Knights of the Old Republic era as well.
