I went outside at midnight, stayed out there for a while and saw at least 5 of them.
All of them were small except for one which was quite large and had green fire mixed in it's tail. Wonder what causes the green? Some sort of metal I'm sure, copper perhaps?

Most of what you'll see during the Perseids will be small, quick little streaks.
I've always wondered about the green color as well. I've seen that occasionally through the years (working at night does have its astronomical advantages!). My son was outside viewing when I came home last night and his dismal report was no sightings like mine. Too much moon and city lights as I reported above.

I saw one, decent display while I was lugging my photo equipment in for the night. When I came home, I spent a few more minutes looking skyward but without success.
Oh, well. There's always next year.
