What movies are you looking forward to in 2008?

It's that time of year again. The time where we start to look towards the new year and anticipate some of the movies that are coming out. So I thought I'd kick up my annual thread again. The list this year isn't as long as last year's, though.

Here's what I'm looking forward to for next year:

Cloverfield (January 18th) - Just to see what all the hype will lead up to. I think JJ Abrams aims to please, and hopefully this movie will be good. But it could easily either knock it out of the park or bomb.

Iron Man (May 2nd) - The trailer was awesome. I'm not even an Iron Man fan, but that doesn't mean I won't like it. I'm pretty excited for it.

Speed Racer (May 9th) - I may check this out just for kicks. I remember watching reruns of the show as a kid. I saw the trailer. It looks really...different. But it seems that they're keeping the basic elements of the show.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (May 16th) - The first Narnia film was great, and I expect this one to be just as good.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (May 23rd) - Regardless of whether this will be good or not, it will still be awesome to see Harrison Ford donning the fedora one more time.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (May 30th) - Two things make me want to see this movie: 1. Kristen Bell is in it. 2. It's a Judd Apatow production. I'm sold.

The Incredible Hulk (June 13th) - Looking forward to this to see the jolly green giant actually do some fighting. Just expecting a popcorn movie here.

The Love Guru (June 20th) - Pure guilty pleasure movie, just to see Mike Myers play a new character. What can I say, I loved what he did in the "Austin Powers" movies and "So I Married An Axe Murderer". Hopefully this ends up more like that rather than "The Cat in the Hat".

WALL-E (June 27th) - New Pixar movie. 'Nuff said. However, I am a bit puzzled by the lack of voice talent. It seems to be a mostly dialogue-free movie.

The Dark Knight (July 18th) - I'm looking forward to this most. It could very likely become the best superhero film ever. The new pictures of The Joker look exceptionally creepy.

The Pineapple Express (August 8th) - Yet another Apatow-Seth Rogen comedy. It seems sort of like a "Cheech and Chong" type of movie. I can't get enough of these guys.

Bond 22 (November 7th) - After "Casino Royale", I'm really excited to see what else Daniel Craig will bring to the table as 007.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (November 21st) - I can't wait for this one. I know at this point there's still a while to go, but I can't believe that it'll be up to six films already.

Then there's two movies that I plan on seeing, but probably as rentals since I may not decide to catch them in theaters: Wanted, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and The Punisher: Warzone.

But that's about all I can think of for right now. I'm sure there are a handful that I missed, but the ones listed are definitely ones I'll be watching.

Fanboys - Kristen Bell plus Star Wars fanboy movie = awesome! The SDCC panel on it this year was fantastic, looks great.

Iron Man - almost everything they've done has looked right... except the trailer, which almost lost me till the end.

The Dark Knight - I'm getting a little nervous though, not digging a lot of the production stills so far.

Harry Potter 6 - if 5 hadn't been good, I wouldn't have this on my list, but thankfully it redeemed the cinematic series.

Son of Rambow - it sounds interesting.


I'm worried about:

I'm disgusted by:

• Get Smart
• Superhero!
• Horton Hears a Who (with Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell! What could possibly go wrong with that?)
• Witless Protection (with Larry the Cable Guy and Jenny McCarthy! What could possibly go wrong with that?)
• The Hottie and the Nottie (a romantic comedy with Paris Hilton and... well, 'nuff said really.)
• Meet the Spartans (a "300" parody with Kevin Sorbo and Carmen Electra! What could possibly go wrong with that?)

Don't care about:

• Rambo 4
• Narnia 2
• Hulk 2
• Punisher 2
• Cloverfield
• Semi-Pro (anything with Will Ferrell is lucky to escape my wrath since he is comedy's most overrated actor)
• 10,000 BC (does anybody care?)

Secretly interested in:

• Run Fatboy Run (sounds like it could be lame but Pegg is funny and the premise is somewhat original, albeit sitcomy)
• Big Stan (ok, this one has a good chance of sucking bad, but Deuce Bigalow plus Kwai Chang Caine? Could be funny!)
• Starship Dave (Eddie Murphy as a robot starship shaped like a human and piloted by tiny aliens. Probably will suck but I liked Pluto Nash and everybody said that'd suck)

I just saw the trailer for Jumper today when I went to see I Am Legend. Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson together again, and fighting each other again as well it seems. Looks like something I might be interested in.

I don't go to too many movies, but I'll definitely make it to Indiana Jones and Harry Potter. I guess if Star Trek is out in 2008 then I'll see that one too.

Iron Man looks interesting. I've not seen any of the Batman movies so I probably won't see Dark Knight. (Actually, I did see at least most of the first Michael Keaton Batman movie, perhaps the whole thing. I don't remember.)

Fanboys sounds good. A lot of movies interest me every year, but I often don't get out to see them. I don't like going at night, and the prices are higher then too. Saturday works, but I usually am out and about too early looking for Star Wars figures and beating the traffic to do my shopping. I'm often done before the movies start and I don't feel like waiting, or I feel like there are other things I want to do at home.

Cloverfield seems vastly overrated. Meet the Spartans, which I thankfully knew nothing about until those idiotic commercials, seems just disgustingly terrible - why do they keep making horrible parodies and doing them extremely poorly?
