My biopsy results were great. Thank you.

    My creatine is 1.4.

I may have an issue with a hernia however - requiring outpatient surgery.

Happy to hear about the biopsy. Sorry to hear about the hernia, but a friend of mine had to have one taken care of and he said it was not nearly the ordeal he feared it would be. I trust yours will be the same.

I have heard about hernia's happening to donors as well as recipients. I have yet to have one due to the surgery. I d have one in my groin area that the doctor discovered during my physical, before the surgery. Might it be from being a little to active, ie. softball?

If my calculations are correct, I should be post number 523, which is also my birthday.

Yeah, you're probably right. But I'm doing a lot of weight training and cardio stuff, and especially abs to keep the weight and the flab from ever coming back, plus other recreational activities.

    Helicoptor catch anyone?

I just got back from turning in my 24 hour urine collection, next Saturday I am having a cat scan done on my kidney. In about three weeks I will visit with the doctor I saw on Monday, he believes my numbers look normal, but just wants more tests to make sure.

I was IMing Eric earlier today, he said that Jeffs elevated creatinine level was due to a medication issue. He was on Prograf, and they since switched his medication, and his levels are dropping.

Increases in Prograf - a common anti-rejection drug for transplant recipients (which is proven to work very well) - can cause creatinine to rise, as it does in me. However, a few times, that knowledge in mind (I presume), my doctors raised my prograf a little. Then they lower it with my blood test results showing higher Prograf levels or creatinine increases. I don't understand but I don't have the medical degree.

OK, the bad news is I will be having a hernia repaired, most likely at the end of this month. It hurts. That I can tell you for sure. Hernias can happen with the weakening of the body cavity lining after major intrusive surgeries like the ones I have to put a kidney in and take two huge ones out.

Padres catcher Nick Hundley, who is 28 I believe, just had the same surgery.

He played this season, mostly ignoring his pain.

I will do likewise to play with the San Diego Padres myself. Yup - it's this Saturday! (Thank you Barry for making me healthy enough that this is even possible!)

I won the "Frequent Friar Reward" for consistent game attendance by a fan, (as did many other Padres fans who will be playing as well) and the prize is to take batting practice with the team.

I am taking this a step further by bringing my surgery doctors (Barry's Dr. Schaefer is attending for certain) and bringing the executive board members of Donate Life - the organization that operates the life-sharing organ placement that begins when you put a donor registry sticker on your drivers' license - the way the many people that need organs wind up being able to get them and survive. However, while I'm also bringing patients, some who's lives have been changed by having transplants, and others who are still desperately waiting, I'm calling for living donors to help them like BobaFrett helped me. I am getting news media coverage and any video might also appear on Padres.com, the team's official MLB website.

(Former) Padres (now Milwaukee Brewer) All-Star Baseball Pitcher Trevor Hoffman has only 1 kidney, as any living donor would. He had a birth defect that caused him to need to have one of his kidneys removed when he was 11 years old. He's living proof you can live in excellent health with having only one kidney. Hopefully he'll be speaking for the cameras. He lives in San Diego, as he played for the Padres for 16 years!

David Eckstein, 2nd base, and husband of Star Wars star Ashley Eckstein (Clone Wars Ahsoka Tano) should be participating. Donate Life is very important to him. David Eckstein's family has the exact same kidney disease that I had - it is strongly hereditary (though very luckily it skipped David and his children will not have it either if he and Ashley one day decide to have clones.... kids... padawans). Anyway, in recent years, there were 4 kidney transplants performed for David's close family. Ashley Eckstein has noted her support for a Midwestern Transplant service (likely connected to the Cleveland Clinic where the other Star Wars kidney transplant was peformed for Jeff Ramanov with the help from donor Eric Siemens, 501st Legion).

But the really good part of my news is that I have been healthy enough to not only be exercising regularly and maintaining my ideal weight and my new flat tummy, but I'm taking hours of batting practice so that I can really launch some when I play at PetCo Park on Saturday. There will be pictures. Maybe I'll split them up if there are enough (I obviously can't be taking them - I think my doctor is going to help me out by filming this event). But I should put them in this thread, the baseball thread, and the "What Did You Do This Saturday?" thread if there are enough.

But this is going to be awesome. Though my hernia hurts, I am in good health and I'm a capable baseball player. And that is my health status update!

Get that hernia repaired Josh. I still have a slight one from many years ago working for Wal-Mart. When I went to the E.R. to have it checked, they didn't think it was one, but wanted me to go get a second opinion at a hernia specialist. I was to afraid I would miss too much work, that I didn't get the other doctors advice. The doctor who did my physical at Scripp's found it, still there, and he recommended I get it fixed, or it would just get worse as the years wear on.

That sounds very cool everything you are doing with the Padres. I just did my first workout last night, and I could feel it today. Have fun, take lots of pictures. BTW, in the latest Insider there is a picture of a kid dressed as Captain Rex standing near Ashley Eckstein !

Working out with the San Diego Padres!

Here I am in the Padres' gym, clubhouse, and at bat on a pro-ballfield!

Geeze I had a great weekend!

How's this for an update: I can punch a baseball into the outfield while batting on a real MLB pro diamond and could get myself on base!

I invited my friend and doctor who the Padres let bring his young nephew who had a great time. I got a chance for him to bat as well!
