QUESTIONS FOR HASBRO - round 60

Please post your VOTE for up to 6 {six} of the questions provided in this thread, letting us know which ones you most want to see asked on November 14th. Keep in mind that your votes in round 59 do not count in this round, so if your question is still on the list you may want to vote for it again.

Also, feel free to post new questions. For reference, here are Hasbro's answers to previous SSG questions; to ActionFigs.com's questions; and from other sites. The questions we asked last round can be found here.

Current questions (vote for up to 6):

    1. - Twice during the prequels, a vehicle toy's MSRP was dropped significantly without any changes to its mold - the first being the Episode I Naboo Royal Starship which went from $100 to $50, and the second being the Republic Gunship which in the Saga line was $40 but subsequent releases were $30. What were the causes of these price drops? Why hasn't this happened with other vehicles in similar high pricepoints?
    2. - What are the requirements that a retailer must go meet to get a Star Wars exclusive, do they have to be a certain size company, make a certain number of Hasbro orders a month, etc.? Is there some sort of process that a retailer has to go through to get an exclusive, do they work with Hasbro on what item to produce or is it out of their hands?
    3. - Why has Commander Faie been included as part of the recent ROTS wave when the character never actually appeared in the movie? And where did this costume come from?
    4. - In Hasbro's awesome Comic-Packs line, we've been treated to Marvel Star Wars issues 1-4, and Dark Horse Revenge of the Sith issues 1, 3, and 4. Any chance we could get comic packs of the missing Marvel SW #5 and 6, and Dark Horse ROTS #2, to complete their respective tales? (Just spitballing ideas: we could certainly do with a Leia/3PO pack for MSW#5 and perhaps a Rebel/Imperial Pilot set for #6, and ROTS #2 could use Grievous and a new deco Clone.) And what about Comic Packs for the other movie adaptation comics like Marvel ESB and ROTJ, or Dark Horse TPM and AOTC?
    5. - The Comic Packs are great since the addition of the comic books give these characters much-needed context, as the average kid and collector who mainly know the movies will likely not know these characters without seeing them in some sort of action. That said, there are still several other expanded universe products that have no context other than the small bio on their packaging. Would it be possible for comic books to also be included in EU multi-figure sets or vehicles as well? For instance, fans of Crimson Empire are liking the look of the upcoming Crucible set, while those who are unfamiliar with the work think it looks more like a cross between Star Wars and Power Rangers.
    6. - On Mighty Muggs, understanding that you're not likely to do new bodies for the line any time soon, will fans ever be getting Battle Droid, Super Battle Droid, and maybe even an IG-100 Magnaguard Mighty Muggs figures? You did the spindly General Grievous as a Mugg already after all. Also, what Hasbro team does the designs for the Muggs and their packaging? Does each team - for example, Star Wars, Marvel, and Transformers - design their own Muggs, or is it centralized?
    7. - With Sideshow having released a smashing diorama of the "Look Sir, Droids" scene, what are the chances of Hasbro doing a similar battle pack? It could include the escape pod (perhaps with the proper top hatch openable, or maybe the whole thing upsized) and an assortment of Sandroopers with a variety of pauldrons and accessories. Heck, if you threw in an updated dewback, you'd have quite the nifty ultimate battle pack. Any chance of that?
    8. - While we'd always prefer a worn paint deco on vehicles and droids, we understand sometimes the budget just can't do it. The next time you do a vehicle with a white deco where the budget prohibits additional weathering paint, could you please not use the clean-white color of plastic that you've used on the Clone Wars V-19 or the TLC Dagger Squadron B-wing? This white plastic is just too clean, it screams for weathering as it hides every sculpted line and gives an unwelcome plasticky toy look, while the slightly off-white colors of plastic seem to bring out the lines and look a little weathered better than clean.
    9. - In the Clone Wars line, a few scale issues have come up. Obi-Wan and Anakin figures stand pretty short compared to their non-animated figure counterparts, while Clone Troopers stand unusually tall compared to their non-animated counterparts, and obviously this means CW Obi-Wan and Anakin stand pretty short compared to the Clones. What gives here? Was this an intentional choice, and if so, why?
    10. - When collectors ask for the same stuff over and over again such as certain vehicles like the Cloud Car, large accessories like Jabba's dais, playsets and dioramas of scenes that are not action- or main-character-themed which Hasbro says they aren't likely to do because those areas are not seen as profitable in today's market, are there any NEW ideas swimming around the Star Wars team with an OT collector focus? Not talking about merely new figures or resculpts of unmade vintage figures, but something new in the 3.75" format that would excite collectors, especially OT-focused ones. Stuff like the nifty new Scramble on Yavin battle pack gets collectors jazzed up.
    11. - Although the Cruisemissile Trooper vehicle has its share of detractors, including those at Hasbro, the concept and design have some fun and interesting toy merits, though not fully realized. Perhaps the original design could be embellished and resized to fit into either the current Starfighter Vehicle pricepoint or a Battle Pack or other smaller medium. And of course, this time around it could have a removable pilot and cooler features to make it a fun new vehicle with unique Star Wars credibility. Would Hasbro ever consider making an update to this vehicle with design and features befitting the modern line?
    12. - Now that we're getting the Clone Wars "Lucky Lekku" Republic Gunship repaint, what about releasing more of those individualized nose art Gunships from the Clone Wars? What about doing them with a sticker sheet instead of releasing each design individually, perhaps even with the updated door design from the series?
    13. - This might seem like an odd request, but could you re-issue the old Kenner X-wing, specifically the POTF2 version, with some modifications? There's no X-wing at kid pricing anymore, the only OT vehicles at the Starfighter pricepoint are lonely TIEs with nobody to fight, and that classic X-wing had some decent sculpting, strong wings, and is fun to whoosh about. As well, the POTF2 version had a pretty decent deco (though pre-applied stickers would be nice), and that version also had the best sound effects in any X-wing (aside from the Power FX X-wing, but the sacrifices there are numerous), those sounds alone would sell another batch to collectors. The set could use a tune-up on the cockpit interior, the canopy exterior, the dedicated R2-D2, and the blaster tips need to be reoriented to the proper upright position. Don't you think the kids today deserve an awesome X-wing fighter?
    14. - In the Comic-Con presentation, the Clone Wars Magnaguard was shown to include an alternate, cloak-wearing head. Now that carded images have shown up, it appears as though this extra head is not included. Is it actually included and just hidden behind the insert, or is it another case of an accessory being taken out due to cost? If it is the latter, then can we expect a variant down the road?
    15. - With the upcoming Wioslea figure, we have another Jedi-style outfit with soft-goods cloth robe and "skirt", but the upper tunic remains sculpted to the torso and thus don't match the color or design of the "skirt" that is supposed to continue the tunic. Don't get us wrong, Wioslea's outer robe looks far better than the oversized VOTC Obi-Wan's robe, soft-goods cloth does have its place in the line. But for matching the "skirt" to the top half of tunic, have you ever considered doing a figure with the tunic entirely as soft-goods? Would you consider doing a major super-articulated Jedi figure with a cloth tunic this way?
    16. - Will Hasbro be modifying the existing or making a new Hyperspace Ring for the ROTS Eta-2 Jedi Starfighter? Will the existing Hyperspace Ring ever be sold by itself in other colors to go with existing Jedi Starfighters? With the Ring being featured in episodes of The Clone Wars for Plo Koon's and Anakin's Jedi Starfighters, and your confirmation that Hasbro's Clone Wars Jedi Starfighter will fit the existing Ring, will you be selling Anakin's and/or Plo's starfighters with their Hyperspace Rings as boxed sets to get the full product into kid and collector hands, taking advantage of the show's current momentum rather than waiting to double-dip down the road when interest has waned, a la the Ep 2 Obi-Wan Jedi Starfighter with Hyperspace Ring?
    17. - In the past year, we've seen a lot of figures from the POTF2-era Expanded Universe line getting revisited one way or another. The Darktrooper was rereleased as a Fans Choice figure, while Mara Jade got an all-new sculpt in the Comics Packs line, and in that line we're also about to get an all-new Grand Admiral Thrawn, Dark Empire Clone Palpatine, DE Luke, and a new Kyle Katarn. That leaves just Dark Empire Leia, the Heir to the Empire Spacetrooper, and the Imperial Sentinel left to be done, will any of them be either reissued or resculpted any time soon to join their EU brethren? Was it a conscious choice to get all those other POTF2 EU figures rereleased, or just happenstance?
    18. - In '06 and '07, when asked about how the price of oil will affect the future of the line, Hasbro replied that there was some cost increases due to the cost of the petroleum-based raw material, the cost of steel going up, taking a beating on rising shipping costs, it even affects the cost of packaging. As a consequence of the current US economic situation, the price of oil has gone down and threatens to trend even further down soon. How soon before the drop in oil prices is translated to reduction of your costs, and ultimately, in the prices for your toys?
    19. - You said in a recent answer that the Solo twins, while difficult to do because of limited visual references, were high on your wish list. Hypothetically speaking, if you were to make these long-request characters, which versions would you do? Young Jedi Knights (there's a good picture of them in the recent Jedi vs. Sith guide), NJO-era Jedi Knights (probably the most requested versions, and based on Japanese cover art which is probably the largest body of visual reference for these characters and was even used by the Official Site as its EU menu before the redesign) or Legacy of the Force-era (with the added advantage that an alternate head and lightsaber and removable cape would allow you to do Jacen and Caedus as one figure)?
    20. - When we last asked about the Cade Skywalker/Darth Talon Comic Pack missing Cade's lightsaber, you told us that the tooling for it was lost so you'd be moving forward without it. Since then, the set has started hitting and it looks like a running change was made, the saber is showing up in some sets, but generally the sets with the saber are much harder to find and buyers have already got incomplete sets in their hands. Hasbro consumer affairs can only deal with this currently by taking the entire set back and saying they're not sure if they'll be able to replace the exact set or one of equal value. Could you please find a better way to get those missing lightsabers and saber hilts into buyers' collections?
    21. - Why are the Droid Factory build-a-droid parts for C-3PX incompatible with the basic figures' build-a-droid parts, especially the other protocol droids like RA7's? 3PX has a ball joint for his head while RA7 has a post, and the pegs for the arms and legs also differ, thus making it impossible to mix-n-match parts, which the concept had otherwise highly adopted. Was this done on purpose, and if so, why?
    22. - Assuming you do decide to make the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid, which last you told us was likely since it is in the Clone Wars cartoon, would it have a cockpit and working treads? What other features would you put into it?
    23. - Recently, a photo showed up of the new set of figure stands, including a new sticker sheet with a few previously unheard of figures on it, one of which is Anakin Skywalker - Concept. With the announcement that there will be 4 new Concept figures in 2009 not based on McQuarrie artwork, we're assuming that Anakin is among them. But what is the source material for that concept figure, production era, artist? Will the other 3 concept figures be from the same production era and artist, or based on all kinds of source material?
    24. - With Titanium Series 3" vehicles rapidly becoming one of the most successful Hasbro Star Wars sub-lines with over 60 individual carded releases, it's become nearly impossible to display them all at once. The main reason is that the unique packaging - although admirable in its specialized shape, custom graphics, and large window for the product - doesn't stack well and is very difficult to keep in mint condition with an easily-crushed and -scuffed round bubble, and vulnerable J-hook. Might Hasbro be willing to offer some sort of clamshell-style protective cases for the packaging, even if it's just through HasbroToyShop, similar to the one for the 3.75" figures?
    25. - With the confirmation of 2X-7KPR - the last unmade droid from the sale of the droids scene - being released in '09 as another Jawa/droid 2-pack, how will this set be released? This is an ANH scene, you've confirmed that ESB will be the only source getting 2 waves in '09, and the '09 ANH wave already has a different Jawa/droid 2-pack, so where will Jawa/2X-7KPR fit into the overall? Will this be a running change repacked into another wave, or has a second ANH wave been slotted - and if the latter, what other figures will be in that 2nd ANH wave?
    26. - Now that The Clone Wars TV series has a set schedule, in the future could you possibly coordinate Hasbro's Clone Wars figure releases to coincide with the episodes those figures are in context to? We understand there's a long lead time on figure production, but there's also a long lead on episode production. Seeing a character on the series one day and then being able find the figure in the store the next day would help drive sales, don't you think? For instance, R3-S6 "Goldie" appeared in 2 episodes in early and mid November '08, but the R3-S6 "Goldie" figure isn't due until around February '09. Wouldn't the figures have more appeal with the characters fresh in kids' and casual collectors' minds? Would coordination like that be possible?
    27. - Does Hasbro have any plans to update the Dianoga in the near future? We need one that is better detailed, better articulated and perhaps featuring multiple bendy tentacles. If you were to update the Dianoga, what format would you release it in: Battle Pack, a basic carded figure, Ultimate Battle Pack, something else?
    28. - Now that you've confirmed that there will be 4 new concept figures in '09, that one of them is Anakin, and that they'll be from both OT and PT sources, could you confirm whether the other 3 concept figures will be based on major characters (i.e. Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Maul) or can we expect to see some obscure character and even alien design concepts, such as the Mon Calamari Dancer from the Galaxies Opera House or the Revwien alien from original Cantina alien drawings?

First, going back to the converstaion from the other thread . . .

No, I don't know for sure what source it's going to be from, but I assume (or at least hope) it will be AOTC. But I just found it odd that they want to release the pods now, when we're mostly seeing gunships without the pods. See what I mean? It feels like I'm having a hard time articulating this . . . it would be like releasing an AOTC Anakin figure for the ROTS launch, going back to an older version of something when there's a newer version available (which I suppose they have done before . . . but I still want the doors). Question 12 asks about the gunships already, so I think a good revision to that one would be:

    - Now that we have the Clone Wars "Lucky Lekku" Republic Gunship repaint, what about releasing more of those individualized nose art Gunships from the Clone Wars? What about doing them with a sticker sheet instead of releasing each design individually, perhaps even with the updated door design from the series? You said you want to rerelease the bubble pods, which are not even in the series as they've been replaced by the second set of doors, so why not also show some love for more Clone Wars-accurate gunships?

    I'll go with 5, 9, 12, 14, 20, and 23.

7, 10, 11, 17 for now. Maybe JT will be nice and reconsider my Kal'Falnl C'ndros question and if so I'll vote for that too. Pretty please?

Will Hasbro ever do a figure of Kal'Falnl C'ndros? She's the ostrich-like alien whose legs were glimpsed briefly in A New Hope. Her full Quor'sav physiology has since been fleshed out in the Secrets of the Sisar Run book by West End Games. She'd be a must-have for completing cantina or Street of Mos Eisely dioramas, and she'd make an interesting toy! Does that brief glimpse give us a shot at having her action figure?
Most wanted "bottom-of-the-barrel scrapes": ANH: Kal'Falnl C'ndros, Revwien (concept art), Tzizvvt ESB: Wiorkettle, Treva Horme ROTJ: Cane Adiss, Loje Nella TPM: Edcel Bar Gane AOTC: Rogwa Wodrata ROTS: Mon Calamari Dancer, Veedaaz Awmetth, Eeusu Estornii EU: Guri (red outfit), Ket Maliss

I have a question that I think should be asked to Hasbro once again :

"What are the chances of seeing the Action Fleet line return with an all new focus and more playability (ie more figures, and smaller sets). This would be a great way to have vehicles from all the sources of Star Wars (ie, Prequel Trilogy, Clone Wars, Original Trilogy, Expanded Universe), it would be a semi cheap and affordable toy concept that had much success when the original line was launched and is a great way of giving fans some of the vehicles that might never see the light of day in the 3 3/4 inch line.
I mean if you could release perhaps various vehicles from all the sources in each wave (for instance perhaps an X-Wing and TIE Fighter from the OT, Jedi Starfighter and Droid Starfighter from the PT, Clone Wars Gunship and a Vulture Droid from the Clone Wars, and maybe a Concept TIE Advanced and perhaps the Outrider from the EU), and thus blanket all the sources and not have pegwarmers left around.
Also the mini adventure sets were a great way to build up small scenes and get more figures, this concept can be explored once again in a battlepack format with perhaps a small exclusive vehicle. This is also a great way to make scaled playsets for the figures and the vehicles.
i know the label was originally Galoob when it was launched but I'm sure Hasbro could secure the rights to it and bring it back in the spotlight. also it's a great way for kids to bring some of their Star Wars toys and adventures when the bigger stuff may not be possible."
Looking for CW 2010 Sidious and TX-20...if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. thanks
