Right, this is for anyone who's known me a fair while.
As you all know my dog Buster died in 2007. And he was a dog got via the guide dogs for the blind training programme. the third one me and my partner 'puppy walked' or did basic training with.
My first dog, Ramsey, passed his training in 1999 and went on to work for a blind guy called Roy. And apparently did a really good job. However, Ramsey was retired two years ago due to arthritis. And since then has unfortunately gained a ton of weight due to lack of exercise and overfeeding. Which at 12 years old is not good. He's 117 pounds and should be about 73 pounds. That's one porky dog. no wonder he has arthritis carrying round all that extra.
Roy is due to get a new dog so Ramsey was up for rehoming and the Guide dog centre people asked us if we'd like to take him back. Of course we said yes immediately. How could we say no.
Now, he's a Labrador Retriever cross breed, not known for longevity of life. We don't know how long we'll have with him. could be weeks could be another five years. The important bit is that he's coming home to spend his twilight days in comfort getting the care he deserves. and the right diet.
We pick him up tomorrow morning. I'm a bit scared he won't recognise us. I guess it'll be a bit of a mad day for all of us.
