Well, I fixed their website's news' RSS feed.

I've got their RSS feed as my first bookmark of the day so I don't miss out (and now on my phone), and for the last few weeks it's been not loading. Finally, yesterday when I had a spare few moments, I looked into it and found CCI's website has 2 other cons with working RSS feeds, so I wrote to them about SDCC's being down. I still haven't heard back from them, but today it's working again. So, I fixed Comic-Con.

Dang! I thought you eased the lines to get in, created a better way to get tickets, ensured it's still fun for most of the whole family, made food buying convenient and tasty, somehow provided more space and access in the same location while also easing traffic in and out of parking and local visits, while still maintaining the fun atmosphere of fandom and collecting with a balance of Hollywood influence that's not taking-over controlling in style.

If that stuff wasn't there, it wouldn't be Comic-Con. If you want a rinky-dink convention, "Anaheim Comic-Con" is coming up soon, that's just Wizard World LA in a new venue with a new name after they failed to produce it in '09.

Anaheim tried to get the real Comic-Con.

In order to ease the mess, I propose they split "Comic-Con" from "Everything Else Con."

Comic- con would be just fine if it went back to what it was before around 2003 when the only thing that the Studios would show there where either Comic Book related, Sci Fi, Animation or Fantasy projects. Not Every New TV Show including Glee and Every Movie that Every Studio has planned to release for the next 2 years. When the Biggest booths on the Show Floor where Marvel, DC and Dark Horse!

And remember when the Badge was a piece of Art! Something that was actually drawn by a Comic Artist and the holder would have another piece on it that would complete the Look of the Badge!

I also really miss walking around the show floor and seeing all those Rare Comic Books. All those endless Toy Booths with stuff you haven't seen since digging them out of your Toy Boxes. Seeing aspiring Artist and Writers getting the work critiqued.

And also when the shows furthest influence in the City was just the Convention Center! You could actually walk into downtown and grab food and all you would see was just a hand full of people with a badge on or a costume. Bars and Restaurants weren't Closed to you for "Hollywood" Parties and if there was a Actor or a Director they would just be hanging in the Bars with you in Downtown.

I know I kinda rambled on here but I really miss the Comic-Con that was there when I started going to it in 1990 and died in 2003( Yeah... I remember the exact year) that I know myself and my friends have enjoyed.

It's pretty sad that most of the people there have no appreciation for comics. I don't mean they're geeks who don't read comics but know they exist. I'm talking about the people who seem oblivious to the fact that the "Comic" in the name refers to something that still exists.

Nothing for the dig at the low-number aisles where all the greasy little comic dealers are?

I actually credit Comic-Con '07 for getting me back into comics, just not the big books of my youth, now for me it's all about the little indie and web-comic guys for me. I get to meet and hang out with them thanks to the convention big enough to draw them to the west coast. Yes, the big studios make the southerly aisles into a madhouse, and the lines for the big stuff in ballroom 20 and Hall H are out of control (even the rooms in the middle like 6BCF are pretty wack) but there's still plenty of comic stuff going on too.

Comic Con drew the Big Names in Comics since the get go in the 70's so it really doesn't need Hollywoods Help in that department at all drawing crowds to see them. Yeah sure in the mid 90's Wizard World Chicago which was the only competing Big Comic Con at the time took a few of them for a few years. The new crowds want to see the Big Names in Movies and TV... see the 2 minutes of random unfinished shots... I can look back all I want, Comic Con is never going to be what is was for me and that's why I don't go anymore and I'm sure there are others like me that feel that way... I'll just hold on to the memories I have. It was a magical show back in the day... and it was truly a get away for me... from 2004 - 2006 it became a chore to go to this show and was no longer fun for me... fighting for a hotel room... fighting for parking... It was great when I lived in Temecula and left for the show around 9am drive to SD and could park in the lot where hall h is now... not waking up at 5am fighting for a sport in a structure next door and waiting in line for something I wanted to see or buy for 4 hours... Like I said... I won't go anymore... not the comic con that won me in 1990.

I thought this was not a dig, but a lamentation over the marginal status comics get at their own convention. I would really be happy, though, if they separated the two worlds a bit more so one didn't have to trudge through the insane crowds who want freebies from movies that will suck and they'll throw away in a week to get from publisher to publisher.

Funny story from last year: I met up with a friend who's now out of state. We both wanted GIJoe #156 (the first issue of the continuation of the old Marvel series). This isn't a totally marginal issue; it's technically a first, and people were looking forward to it. It came out on the Wednesday of Preview Night. We went to every bloody booth that was selling new comics, as well as the IDW booth.

Not a single place had the issue for sale. Not one. A couple commented that they simply decided not to bring copies, but they might have it at their stores... in other cities or states. IDW offered to look up local comic shops in San Diego or our hometowns.

But we could've filled a truck with Blackest Night variants.

I know it's just one issue, and not the highest profile series out there. But it is one of the most popular series by the fifth largest publisher in America. Seems odd that we couldn't find a single copy of a brand new comic at the biggest comic convention on Earth. Because it's not really the biggest comic convention anymore; even twenty years ago, Heroes Con in NC was bigger than the comics section of SDCC.
