    EA owns DICE, but it's DICE that's doing the work (I actually believe it's DICE's new LA studio).

    Battlefront II is probably my favorite game of all time, as it's one of the few that I keep going back to over and over, so hopefully this version finally makes it out, which LucasArts was never able to accomplish. It's interesting that they're just calling this Star Wars: Battlefront and not Battlefront III, possibly for legal reasons.

    It's been funny to read online reactions. It wasn't that long ago that everyone was decrying the end of LucasArts and the fact that Disney was only going to put out games for toddlers!!!11!!1! and now everyone is creaming themselves over this. Patience, my friends, patience.

    The newest gaming system anyone in my family owns is a Wii, so I'll probably have to upgrade for this one if it turns out to be good. Thankfully last night's reveal shows the PS4 to be a significantly better (or at least much less idiotic) system than the Xbox One.

    So is this the same game that was cancelled for no reason by LucasArts a year or two back?

    You want to hear idiotic, you ought to hear what they plan on doing with the Killer Instinct game they announced for Xbox One. It is going to be a day-one "digital-only" release. When it releases it will feature only one character. Jago will be free to play on launch day. You'll have to pay for every other fighter though.

    From what I've read, it seems that this game is being built from the ground up using the engine that DICE built for Battlefield 4. I don't know much about the Battlefield games but they seem to be pretty popular and incorporate combat on the ground, in the air, and at sea; just what we were always promised in Battlefront 3. Also, I'm pretty sure it was canceled in 2008, not just a couple of years ago. I'm pretty excited!

    7 years ago, Battlefront 3 was 90% finished when Lucasarts pulled it from the publisher, Lucasarts attempted to take it to another publisher to follow through but all the technology licensing and work done by other people made that impossible, so it died on the vine. The original publisher blames Lucasarts for not committing resources, Lucasarts blames the original publisher for not focusing properly despite a nearly complete game being eventually shown off.

    This announcement comes as zero shock to me, EA owns DICE, DICE opens a new studio in LA, DICE is renowned for their Battlefield series of games and is about to launch BF4, it makes perfect sense that this was the route EA was going to take with the new SW license. That said, in the past 8 years since SW Battlefront 2, the first person shooter genre has come a long way and a new SW FPS game will need to be different from Battlefield or Call of Duty or Halo, it will need to have a lot of SW flavor but also a unique feel - DICE says that's what they want to do, but we'll see. I loved their Battlefield: Bad Company 2 game's multiplayer and their Bad Company singleplayer, but Battlefield 3 (the game that followed BC and BC2) was a frustrating let-down that ruined squad play and single player campaigns, so this needs to get away from the main Battlefield series and closer to BC and BC2. Also, more than 12 players per side on consoles.
