Cool 30 Minutes Of Unreleased RotJ Footage Found!!

It's not something that happens everyday. Especially not for major films like Star Wars.

There's been reports over the years of lost footage for Halloween and such turning up.

But a fellow collector recently won an auction for an old RotJ Videodisc from Ebay for $699.

On it was 30 minutes of lost and unused footage from RotJ. Including alternate takes and a blooper reel.

Here's a list of some of the footage discovered on the old Editdroid disc:

Filming of a conversation between Luke and Yoda from Yoda's point of view.

    A soundless scene of R2-D2 repairing Luke's X-wing.

    A scene of Yoda dying.

    Lightsaber practice tests.

Luke asking Yoda if Darth Vader is actually his father .

A blooper reel with partial sound.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, "If there's no hot Boba-on-Jabba action that was cut to avoid an X rating, I'm not interested."

All seriousness, I want to know more. I don't want merely to see more footage; I want more details on the laserdisc. Its existence boggles the mind. I don't doubt at all this is legit--if it were faked, let's give the guy an Oscar for how well he faked it--but I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around the "how." Who had this laserdisc for almost twenty years, and did s/he have no idea that there was lost Star Wars footage on it? How was the eBay auction listed (since I'm assuming it had to say something extra special to get someone to pay $700 for it).

And the news article says it was used in 1984 to demonstrate an editing process. So how many copies of this are in existence, and how much more is floating around?

(Call me a nerd, but I'd like to see the "rough cut" of Star Wars, no matter how disjointed and slow I've heard it to be. Or the original David Prowse audio from the ESB duel.)
    Tommy, close your eyes.

Yeah. It was used to demonstrate the Editdroid in 1984. Which was Lucasfilm's Editing Machine.
